EAG: WASHINGTON, D.C. – A new position paper from the School Nutrition Association – which represents about 57,000 school food service directors – is calling for changes to “overly prescriptive regulations” imposed on schools by former first lady Michelle Obama.
The SNA contends “overly prescriptive regulations have resulted in unintended consequences, including reduced student lunch participation, higher costs and food waste,” according to its recently released 2017 Position Paper.
“Federal nutrition standards should be modified to help school menu planners manage these challenges and prepare nutritious meals that appeal to diverse student tastes.”
The SNA has repeatedly called on Congress in recent years to relax regulations included in the Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act championed by former first lady Michelle Obama since they went into effect in 2012. more
Schools ought to have food courts like shopping malls do. Let the kids choose from Burger King, Pizza Hut, Panda Express, etc.

I never understood the whole food lunch program thing. Honestly, I never paid attention to it because I made a sack lunch every day for offspring. But I always wondered how an unelected person — that woman who lived in the WH — had any authority to influence or regulate school lunch programs.
And I thought this was already addressed by Trump’s admin.
There are 57,000 school lunch directors? We used to have lunch boxes and our mothers packed them. That worked very well for a long time.

Mom used to pack my lunch-box each morning along with a thermos of fruit juice or milk and if a friend didn’t have a lunch I would share-we didn’t get fat because we played hard afterwards. It was not a preppy lunch-it was PB&J or sandwich meat with chips-apple-and a candy bar
