Fake conservatives who charged that Trump was not a conservative are now turning on Trump as he tries to govern as a conservative.
The mouth-breathing conservatives who hated the thought of Trump because he was a “secret double sneaky liberal” are now scrambling around trying to drum up support for the surprisingly (to them) conservative president.
It is amazing to watch.
The republicans, with control of all 3 branches of government, have already signaled to the minority party that they are gutting Trump’s signature conservative campaign promises.
…it is shocking how a party with control of all branches of government has accomplished absolutely nothing in its first two months. It is unprecedented for a party with full control to squander its most potent and immediate political capital. Democrats had already enacted major fiscal and social policies by this time in 2009. Yet, the budget bill due in April was the last great hope to salvage some policy victories for the first 100 days. Now that is dashed by this Republican Party, which has shown itself to be nothing more than an affirmative action version of the Democrat Party for dumb people.
As The Hill’s Alex Bolton reports, Senate Republicans have not only guaranteed Democrats they will give them all the policies and spending levels in the bill, but they will also jettison the president’s request for a supplemental spending bill for construction of the border wall, along with spending offsets.
Folks, there are no words in the English language to describe the level of betrayal and perfidy transpiring among Republicans. For the past six years, we were told that we must give President Obama everything he wanted in the budget, even though Republicans controlled the House and then the Senate. We were told that one could never win a budget brinkmanship with the specter of a government shutdown when Democrats controlled the bully pulpit of the presidency.
As such, Democrats knew that they could merely threaten a shutdown and Republicans would frenetically give them anything they wanted. In fact, after Republicans took over both the House and Senate in 2015 and caved on everything in the omnibus bill, Chuck Schumer expressed shock at how swiftly Republicans caved. “If you would have told me this year that we’d be standing here celebrating the passage of an omnibus bill,” Schumer boasted. “I wouldn’t have believed it, but here we are.”
I learned long ago not to under-estimate Trump. You’d think these folks who consider themselves so much smarter would have learned that, too.
Ryan and McConnell have always sold out, what’s the big surprise?
We have a strong President and two leaderless Majority bodies of Congress.
As President, Trump is limited to signing legislation from Congress.
With both majority leaders backing into the House and Senate, longingly gazing to the past defeats, they cannot and will not create the future envisioned by the President.
There is no republican party as long as the handful of them that want to be democrats are at the head of it.
We are all unexceptional Kenyans now.
Don’t forget, according to Maxine Waters, Barack “Shadow Government” Obama has all the NSA files on all Republicans, so blackmail is still in play. Just ask justice Roberts.
We need to start a list. Actually it might be easier to start with all of them on the list and subtract the names of the ones worth saving.
I think Ryan is boned. He may last a few more months but at the end his supporters in Congress will be giving him the “speech”. Expect the new speaker to be one with more in common with Trump then with Obama. Ryan was the great conservative hope years ago but over time showed he was more of a Rino than of a Reagan and conservatives never forgot this. The establishment party is a lot more leery about actual conservatives in the party and their power could well start to slip especially if they stat hearing about grass roots groups starting the process hold nomination fights with some of their less conservative members. I wonder if McConnell and some of his Senate lightweights are listening.
Did we need Trump to know that there is only one party with different names? It’s only been 2 months. This isn’t a sprint.
The MSM have lost their grip on the narrative.
Congress critters are who they are. We all know this.
The backstabbers are exposing themselves (cough, cough McCain, cough).
Light is shining into previously dark places.
Don’t get lost in the minutiae. We haven’t won as much as we had hoped, but haven’t lost anything…yet.
Keep yer powder dry.
Will Gorsuch be confirmed? If he isn’t then nobody can be – if the only argument to vote no is ideology then the Dems will just vote no. And if McConnell doesn’t then invoke the nuclear option it will mean he has abdicated any support for the conservative camp.
I hope Trump starts strong-arming the bastards and crackin’ heads, REAL soon and frequently!
My earlier post on the border wall deserves reposting right here;
Pusillanimous contemptible yellow subservient obsequious worthless lily-livered prevaricating pussies.
Oh! and also, I fart in your general direction.
Just once in my life I would like to see conservatism actually applied at the federal level.
What are they going to do if Trump vetoes the bill? Override? I doubt it.
