As I read this story all I could think of was the execrable Michelle Obama saying that “America is a downright mean country.”

we’re a divided country, we’re a country that is “just downright mean,” we are “guided by fear,” we’re a nation of cynics, sloths, and complacents. “We have become a nation of struggling folks who are barely making it every day,” she said, as heads bobbed in the pews. “Folks are just jammed up, and it’s gotten worse over my lifetime. And, doggone it, I’m young. Forty-four!”
LaChapelle works the morning shift at the McDonald’s drive-thru window at 1185 S. Vista Ave. Her friendly service has made her something of an institution at McDonald’s. She’s been known to wear clown noses for the kids and buy breakfast for customers who don’t have enough money.
People who read her story have offered her jobs, including at least one that pays more than she’s making now.
“I’ve been offered jobs at other restaurants and at a hotel for $11 or $12 an hour, but I don’t see any sense in changing. I love my job. I just think I belong at McDonald’s.”
It’s an understatement to say that she’s turned her life around. Addiction to methamphetamines cost her five years in prison. After being released, she lived in a shelter and a halfway house and worked three jobs to pay her fines and restitution.
Meth did a number on her teeth — only eight were left. When she smiled, something she does a lot at the drive-thru, she covered her mouth. That led to the anonymous customer paying for her dental work, which should be finished this fall. Until then, she has temporary dentures that have changed her life.
“I smile more now,” she said. “I’m more confident in myself and I feel like I don’t scare the little kids anymore. I think before they were kind of scared of my mouth. Now I don’t have to cover it up when I smile. I don’t have a problem smiling at anybody anymore.”

The rest of the story is how this particular franchise has become a little miracle. People regularly pay for other people, people share their stories of other people’s acts of kindness. People help one another. It’s just shrouded in an uplifting spirit of goodness.
This sounds a little like a church, no?
If we’re a “downright mean country” it’s because people of Michelle Obama’s ilk have discredited Christianity and orchestrated a devotion to the secular state, putting us on a downward trajectory.

There are good people doing good things everywhere you go, you just have to open your heart and eyes to see them.
Heck, it might even be you or me.
Life is complicated and filled with struggles and definitely too short, not to share your goodness with someone deprives you of a feeling you would not receive any other way.

Nice to hear a positive story once in a while. I have days when I avoid the ‘net, cause I just can’t take anymore negativity.

Kat, I know how you feel. Sometimes breaking news and unfortunate things get in our cycle and it takes a little more effort to find ‘nice’ stories. I’m going to try a little harder.
The truth is always simple.
Goodness can be found if you look for it
So many people go through life just looking for things to be angry about, but see what counting your blessings can do? It is so much better to live with joy. And how can people who have accepted the gift of salvation not be joyful? I see God’s grace manifest in so very many ways every day!
How would she know anyway? Mrs. Obama was born into and has lived a life of comfort and privilege.

The wifey is from a small barangay south of Cebu, the village school has about 50 kids. Every year we donate school supplies for all of the kids because they are so poor. We also send candy and other things.
It is so wonderful to see the happiness of the kids faces each year from the pics the teachers take.
This woman has found her happiness, I’m glad she found it.
