The Democratic leaders jumped the gun in September with a statement claiming President Trump agreed to a DACA deal without funding for Trump’s wall. Trump hit back on Monday.
President Trump released a set of “Immigration Principles & Policies” on Sunday that emphasizes border security, and Trump’s border wall, above all in any deal to codify Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) protections into law.
The document is a blow to Democratic leaders in Congress – in particular, “Chuck and Nancy” – who may have hurt their negotiating position when they pre-empted Trump in September with an announcement about their immigration meeting with him.
As NTK Network noted, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) jumped Trump in September with a statement saying Trump had agreed to a deal to protect DREAMers without funding for his border wall.
Trump responded in a big way with his “Principles & Policies” paper this month, putting the border wall front and center.
