Sanders Holds Republicans To a Different Sexual Assault Standard

“Do you think Al Franken should resign?” Tapper asked.

“I think that’s a decision for Al Franken and the people of the state of Minnesota. My understanding is that Al is a very popular senator. People in Minnesota think that he is doing a good job, and his future will rest with the people of Minnesota,” Sanders said.

Sanders was also asked if he thought that Bill Clinton should have resigned over his extracurricular sexual activities, including rape and sexual assault.

“Look, I don’t think that at this moment our goal is to look back 20 years or 30 years. Our goal is to go forward,” replied Sanders.

What about looking back 40 years, because that’s when Alabama Senate candidate Judge Roy Moore supposedly had inappropriate sexual contact with underage girls. Unlike with Franken and Clinton, there is no credible evidence to support the accusations, but Bernie feels much different about what should happen to the Republican.

Earlier this month on MSNBC Chris Hayes asked Sanders what he thought about the Roy Moore allegations:

“Let us hope that he will not be my colleague, or anybody else’s colleague. You know, I think you have heard, Chris, that there are a number of Republicans who are saying that at this particular time, given these horrific charges against Mr. Moore, that it would be appropriate for him to step aside,” said Sanders.

  1. Every time I hear this story I think that I need to be a comedian. My schtick will be putting a taser to Democrats and watching them dance. All in the name of comedy, of course, and it will get a lot more laughs then these other ‘jokes’.

  2. And to think of all this shock and outrage about Moore when back in the day Clinton could have been caught buggering a ten year old and you’d hardly get a shoulder shrug.

  3. Bernie, do you think its okay for a 1%er to own several mansions around the country. I mean, do they really need all that in their lives?

B.S. “Of course not, its a sign of arrogance and downright greed!”

But Bernie, what about the 3 mansions you and your wife own?

B.S. “I’m not a 1%er, more like a 2%er, so its okay in my case.”

  4. I don’t think Franken should resign, nor do I expect him to. That would set a precedent that the Dems would use against their foes every chance they had. He’ll be ousted in 2020.

Re Moore, if he were to drop out then that would mean any candidate with an accusation – just an accusation – should drop out. Well then nobody would be able to run, because each side would just accuse the others of abuse.
