Trump Returns Parts of Utah To Its Citizens

With a pen and a phone call, President Donald J. Trump reduced the size of two Democrat-Era land grabs in Utah by half. The reduction in size of the Grand Staircase-Escalante (created by Bill Clinton) and the Bears Ears (created by Barack Obama) national monuments is the first time in half a century that a federal protected area has been scaled down.

“Some people think that the natural resources of Utah should be controlled by a small handful of very distant bureaucrats located in Washington. And guess what? They’re wrong,” Trump said in the state capitol alongside Utah’s Republican governor, Gary Herbert, the Utah congressional delegation, and local county commissioners.

We get another Democrat in the WH and there won’t be much of Utah left for the people who live there given what the past two Dem presidents tried to carve out for the federal government.

  1. It is up to the Republicans in Congress to amend the antiquities act to remove any doubt as to what constitutes a land grab. Of course, clearly written laws never got in the way of Obama. Congressional, State and local officials and citizens must be willing to litigate administrative overreach. Obama succeeded because he was allowed to.

  2. Taking a quick look at the acreage of these two monuments they total 3.2 million acres. Connecticut has a land mass of 3.5 million acres so how bout we just make everybody give it up. Move out people of Connecticut, your are now park land. Of course we could negotiate for Delaware (1,593,133 acres) and Rhode Island (988,832 aces). Give them up folks, along with your 4 senators Thomas Carper, Chris loony Coons, Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse and your 4 reps, Richard Blumenthal being one asswipe I’m sure we would all love to see go. We have a few more acres to bargain with but you can keep the change.

I don’t agree with a state the size of a Texas ranch having two senators especially when they are tax and spend liberals.

Go President Trump. Your doing the job congress won’t do.

  3. Michael Savage was having a shit-fit about this the day it happened. He was going on & on about how the land will then be turned over to Chinese companies (the highest theoretical bidders) to mine and thus ruin the area completely….

  4. I love how libs got all out of shape for Trump for doing this yet all that time before Obama overreached the status of the land didn’t even affect them at all. What a bunch of dicks.

  5. Entertaining watching all the screaming about this, about Patagonia’s self-important post, about ‘Net Neutrality’ (the names tend to be the opposite of what they actually do), and on and on. So much win!

As a lib friend just posted: WHAT DO WE NEED TO DO TO GET THIS MAN OUT OF OFFICE?
Wait 3 years and win the election. That’s what you need to do. Don’t expect that to happen though, Trump is making far too many people happy for that to be likely.

  6. IF YOU THINK THE GOV’T OWNS ANYTHING….

you’re a communist. The People own everything and we decide what rights the government has.

Well, if we had any balls, we’d make sure that’s the way it is.

  7. I ‘stumbled’ into this part of the country 35 years ago. I’ve traveled it extensively. You could go days and not see a human. Lots of adventure and solitude. We crashed a Cessna 182 on the other side of Bears Ears. Got lost on Cedar Mesa.

When Clinton created Grand-Staircase there was a huge influx of eco’s and the whole isolation feeling changed and was abused.

I looked over what Zinke chose to protect. I agree.

  8. This is fabulous! Read the “Canyon Country Zephyr” articles on this subject if you want an honest assessment of what the Bears Ears National Monument is really all about. The National Monument would have destroyed this remote area by flooding it with more tourists than it could manage. The locals were being brushed aside for the outsiders to enjoy their landscapes. The Antiquities Act was never intended to tie up millions of acres for National Monuments. Congress needs to pass legislation that insures this can’t happen again. And, Clinton did make a superior metallurgical grade coal mine part of the Escalante National Monument in order to benefit his Indonesian money man. Now, that coal mine can get back in production one of these years.

  9. @Anon,

I heard Savages rant. I suspect he forgets to take his meds once in a while. He seems to act bipolar to me. He is, like Levin, getting tough to listen to and may get purged from my radio dial. I can’t remember the last time he let a caller complete a sentence.

  10. There is talk on Salt Lake Capital Hill about taking this returned land and turning it into STATE Parks, so the land can’t be grabbed by the FedGov again on a reversal of politics.

  11. YES!!!!! This is such a big deal for me, I’m happy with what he did. So much to add on this subject…but it looks like they got rid of huge areas ‘already protected’ as wilderness, conservation, and other ‘special’ areas. 3D Chess. And the new national park someone proposed today? Well, the other side wanted Tourists, here’s their chance! Enough from me and Mr. Coors.

  12. Funny no one in “News” media ever mentioned the terrible financial impact on small local communities the original land-grab mentioned; also nothing said of this concerning the previous Clinton land-grab in the same area.
Ranchers and farmers have proven to be the best stewards of the land, but the commies know land ownership is where the real power lies.
