MLB Pitcher Cole Hamels Donates His Mansion To Children’s Charity

USA Today-

Texas Rangers pitcher Cole Hamels and his wife, Heidi, aren’t just donating money to charity this year — they’re giving away a house.

According to News-Leader.com, the Hamels family donated their 32,000-square-foot, $9.75 million home in Missouri to the non-profit Camp Barnabas. The home, which sits on 100 acres, will go to the camp and benefit children with special needs and chronic illnesses.

“There are tons of amazing charities in Southwest Missouri. Out of all of these, Barnabas really pulled on our heartstrings,” says Cole Hamels. “Seeing the faces, hearing the laughter, reading the stories of the kids they serve; there is truly nothing like it. Barnabas makes dreams come true, and we felt called to help them in a big way.”

It was the largest donation in the organization’s history.

  1. He and his wife are really good people, they felt a Calling !
Most people people Don’t even understand that anymore, if your’e reading this you get it but many have no idea at all.

  2. Why isn’t it the lowest donation? Think about it, you have a bunch of overpaid millionaires who play a game for a living. Somehow, I’m the stupidest person in the room because my professional sports management team would run my estate like a REIT – 90% of profits back to the people. Perhaps that’s one reason why I’m not a professional sports player, among several other reasons.

  3. Wow, some of you sound like Liberals and the MSM….. Kinda hatin’ this morning….
I am not really sure about athletes but the rest of us only “write off” a percentage of donations (and generally because we can).
Inasmuch as athletes being “overpaid millionaires who play a game for a living”, they would not make a dime if entertainment was not the single most important thing to the vast majority of Americans…. They are not stealing it.
Whether or not this donation is a “drop in the bucket” or going to put the Hamels’s on the street in not important. Seems to me that it was (is) a kind gesture which should be appreciated be conservative thinkers.

  4. GOOD ON HIM, NO DOUBT ABOUT IT

My catechism teacher once asked us, “Who sacrificed more? The rich man who gave $100 to the collection plate, or the poor person who gave $1?”

  5. Many people hear, there are a select few who listen and even fewer who choose to act upon the call.

Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

Blessings to the Hamels for answering the call.

  6. I can’t imagine sinking 9 million dollars into a money pit like that. Thee roof is going to cost $400,000-$1,000,000 minimum when it wears out. The yearly property taxes are $120,000 per year.

You couldn’t give that money pit away.

    Oh wait.

  7. Reading some of the comments here made me think I made a wrong turn and ended up at Democrap Underground by mistake.

Pro athlete donates his home to charity and that somehow inspires negative comments? What’s next? Are you folks going to march on his house with pitchforks and torches?

    Sad.

  8. Crackerbaby and Claude Balcz,
You have to forgive some hint of cynicism.
Most of us have heard nothing but lies and exaggerations from “celebrities” about themselves and their noisome “generosities” that, too often, proved to be, shall we say, posturing? Remember Ellen DeGenerate and the dogs? Remember Woody Allen’s adopted daughter? Corrine Brown’s “charity?” The Clinton Foundation? The NFL’s shakedown payments to race-hustling poverty-pimps? Operation PUSH? Sharpton’s National Action Network? ACORN? Red Cross’s payments for the murders of the unborn?

Some might be a tad hesitant to believe, wholeheartedly, in acts of charity by their surface glitter.

    izlamo delenda est …
