Now We’ve Done It! The Ocean Floor Is Sinking!

Yahoo!: The Ocean Floor Is Sinking Under The Water Weight From Melting Glaciers, And It’s As Bad As It Sounds.

[Newsweek] So much extra water is being added into the world’s oceans from melting glaciers that the ocean floor is sinking underneath its increasing weight. This ocean floor deformation also means we have miscalculated just how much ocean levels are rising and the problem could be far worse than previously believed.

Over the past 20 years, ocean basins have sunk an average of 0.004 inches per year. This means that the ocean is 0.08 inches deeper than it was two decades ago. While this small fragment of an inch may not seem much, oceans cover 70 percent of our planet, making the problem bigger than it seems at an initial glance.

In a study published online in Geophysical Research Levels, researchers explain how they used a mathematical equation known as the elastic sea level equation to more accurately measure the ocean floor. This allowed them to see how much the bottom of the ocean floor has changed from 1993 to 2014. While they are not the first scientists to look at the ocean floor, this is the first time that researchers have taken into account how additional water from melted ice may have further stretched the ocean floor, LiveScience reported.  read more

  1. Man made global warming; keep the “Big Lie” going.
That other Big Lie -Peak Oil, kind of fizzled.
There’s big money in those Big Lies.
May these deceitful perpetrators rot in hell.

  2. “…researchers explain how they used a mathematical equation known as the elastic sea level equation…”

Hahahahahahahaaa stop it guys, you’ve departed Science.

  3. We covered this about a week ago.
.004 inches is about the thickness of a hair.
A good machinist takes care to machine a moderately sized feature on a football size engine part to a few thousandths of an inch.
Oceans are tens of thousands of feet deep. The moon and sun gravitational forces move the water up and down almost a foot mulitple times per day. The wind causes waves that make the surface complete chaos.
Oh – and the earth’s crust is floating on a pool of lava…
And these idiots think they can accurately measure movement of the ocean floor to a few thousandths of an inch?

  4. As a now retired professional scientist (chemist) who has had a life-long interest in earth and weather science, I find this “revelation” so abysmally stupid that I just have to walk away from it. These so-called “researchers” apparently didn’t pass 5th grade science class. My grandson knows better than that.

  5. If the water running into the ocean is sinking the floor, but not raising the water level, then why was all the ice sitting on land not sinking the crust? Also, would Guam tip over or float away?
And I blame the clouds. They are accessories to this crime and they are white.

  6. Since the ocean floor is on tectonic plates, the entire plate would sink with the ocean floor, including the parts on land.
Then you could easily measure the drop on land and prove or disprove the theory.
Any guesses on whether or not this happens?

  7. This is Climate Crisis (formally Global Warming).

Obama found a way to avoid the rising of the oceans by lowering the seas floor. The problem is that, like everything Obama did, it was only a temporary solution.

  8. 0.004 inches per year? That’s about the thickness of an average human hair. So to all of the heretic global warming/climate change deniers when Algore tells you this will cayuse all of the waters in the rivers to be sucked out to fill the hole, believe him and send money.

  9. All that extra water weight was trying to squeeze molten magma through a fault on my property, which would’ve been horribly cataclysmic for the entire Southwestern United States, but I stacked some old engine blocks and empty beer cans on top… We’ll be okay now.

  10. The ocean floor? Isn’t that where the evil global warming CO2 is being stored? Or was it the actual high temperatures being stored there so that’s why we don’t have real global warming up here?

Oh, I bet it’s because the evil CO2 and warm temperatures are heavy and thereby sinking the ocean floor. Well, then. I’d say, “No problem. Let’s burn us some piles of tires!”

  11. Oh Shit, Were Flooding Inner Earth and drowning Reptilians.
The Liberals will have a new Bumper sticker ” RLM ” Reptilian Lives Matter, so what if they want to Eat You … you Racist !

  12. One more time:

♫ “The ice caps are melting, hooray, hooray!
Flood waters are rising, they’re higher every day.
Our cities are drowning; this is the end.
The ice caps are melting to wash away our Sin.” ♪

    (With apologies to Herbert Khaury)

  13. You have to remember these idiots are the result of “Progressive” schooling. I learned back (way back) in 3rd grade science class that water actually takes up more volume in a frozen state vs a liquid state. It actually increases in volume by 9.05% after freezing. So in reality, as the Arctic & Antarctic glaciers melt, the ocean levels will actually lower, since most of the ice is below sea level to begin with.

    https://www.quora.com/How-does-water-increase-in-volume-when-frozen

So let these idiots put this in their “Pipe” and smoke it.

  14. This is just too much!!!!!!!!!!!! Just when we think the dumb bastards couldn’t come up with more stupid shit they invent this narrative. First, it was Global Cooling, then Global Warming, then Climate Change, now the Ocean floor is sinking… OMG, where are the adults?

The sad part is that millions will believe this crap.

  15. Apparently the it’s the 15% of the ice that we can see that adds weight when it melts. Everybody knows that it “floats” ABOVE the surface of the ocean, therefore it must be weightless.

  16. A 1 degree temperature increase in 30 feet of water would account for over a .025 rise in water level. Providing the water temp was between 42 to 68 degrees F. Feel free to check my math. Who is this asshole?

  17. Just a few years ago, weren’t these same asshats pissing and moaning about all the glaciers disappearing and no longer flowing into the sea? I could swear they were saying that.

  18. So what’s the problem to complain about?
Sounds like earth in balance to me according to their own GW theory.

Let’s see, ice melts, sea level rises. But – for every action there is an equal opposite reaction – the ocean floor sinks, thereby absorbing the extra water & keeping the coast line at the same place. No problem.

  19. Well, y’see, the reason the sea-level isn’t rising is that the sea-floor is falling … and … and … there’s some other bad stuff … like … y’know … all the heat’s being trapped at the bottom of the Indian Ocean and that’s like … y’know … why Globaloney Warming can’t be measured … and stuff … cuz … y’know … well … it’s BAD, I tell ya! BAD! And we’re all gonna die unless we relinquish all of our Liberties and Freedoms and stuff … uhh … and send money to Al Gore, Geo. Soros, and Michael Mann … see? And we need a Central Committee to rule over us … cuz their smarter than us … and stuff … Vote for Orca Winfrey!

    izlamo delenda est …

  20. Rising sea levels are called “tides” and are an effect of the moon’s gravity and relative position to the earth – it has nothing to do with temperature changes.
Have the Algorophobics heard of those?

  21. Nature/God put man on earth for a short time knowing he would eventually screw things up so another, smarter and more clever life form could evolve and replace him. Its all in the big over all plan, man has a built in obsolescence/self destruct gene. Stay tuned for PBS’s “life on earth part 649”, where human’s die off by the thousands and ugly bugs take a turn at raising the ocean floor back up into place before the earth goes out of balance and spins into the sun. I read that some place on the INTERNET…must be true.
