American Thinker- Four different proposals to reform immigration law and give protections to the children of illegal aliens failed to achieve the necessary 60 votes in the Senate, probably killing immigration reform for the foreseeable future.
The measure backed by Donald Trump, which would have given a path to citizenship for 1.8 million illegals and eliminated chain migration and the visa lottery, went down 60-39. Fourteen Republican senators voted against it.
A bipartisan bill sponsored by moderate Susan Collins, which would have granted DACA recipients protections in exchange for $25 billion in border security, was also decisively rejected. That bill did not address chain migration or elimination of the visa lottery.
Two other bills were also defeated, mostly along party lines.
The Senate votes were the latest in a series of failures in Congress in recent years to pass a comprehensive immigration plan, and left lawmakers and immigration advocates searching for a way forward for the young Dreamers.
Democrats complained Trump’s uncompromising approach was sinking efforts to find a deal in Congress.
“This vote is proof that President Trump’s plan will never become law. If he would stop torpedoing bipartisan efforts, a good bill would pass,” Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer said.
The White House in a statement late on Thursday blamed Democrats for the failure to pass legislation, saying that “they are not serious about immigration reform, and they are not serious about homeland security.”
Winning
Schumer must be frustrated after so many years of GOPe capitulation under the guise of bi-partisanship.
Pull the plug!
Obviously, their home countries and extended families need them back home. Who are we to deprive those needy turd world countries of these stellar, hard working young people? The very group of millions they need to move their countries forward?
No more “dreamers?!” Awww… wotta shame. So sad, too bad, I’m glad. 😉
“… granted DACA recipients protections …”
Huh? If I went to my Doctor and he said: “We want to develop a treatment that gives ample protection to your cancer …” I’d shit-can him, on the spot.
WTF is wrong with us?
izlamo delenda est …
A shiny new hashtag: Everytime someone lies “a path to citizenship” they need to be #HeresYoreSign ‘d.
They got a free education, they could go home and be a big fish in a small pond, it’s easier.
They could also go home and come back the legal way, win, win.
I have a friend, George the Greek, he came here when he was 15. Came the old fashioned way, was sponsored. Went to college, he paid for, degree in engineering.
He was out of college and working before he was able to become an American citizen. He went back to Greece and married, Every party I went to at his house he was constantly saying to the Greeks there: “English, she has a test soon, English!”.
He did love a party, made him a rotisserie big enough for 2 whole lambs, baa, baa, baa.
Since *when* were any of the proposals intended to pass?
Let the ungrateful DACA bitch wait until the Supreme Court tell them out of the country see you.
My daughter is visiting (and will be going home soon, thank goodness). She “brainstormed” a solution (koff! koff!) that was pure head-of-the-line path-to-citizenship amnesty. When I tried to discuss how this was unfair to the LEGAL immigrants, she wouldn’t hear it. I had to get up and leave. I love her dearly, but did I mention that she was going home soon?
My in-laws came here legally. So, I have heard about how it is supposed to be done.
Anyone who wants illegals to violate our laws with impunity should go with them since they are not real Americans. Just because they snuck in or were born here through illegal parents does not grant them a right to stay. If I trespassed in your house and hid in your closet does not allow me to live there.
