NYU Student Complains About ‘Racist’ Black History Month Food Menu, Gets Workers Fired

DANGEROUS: A student complaint over a “racially insensitive menu” for a Black History Month meal at New York University has led to firings and an apology from the food service company.

Food is now political.

Following a complaint by Nia Harris, a 19-year-old sophomore at NYU’s College of Arts and Science, NYU President Andrew Hamilton says it was “inexcusably insensitive” for the caterer, Aramark, to feature barbecued ribs, corn bread, collard greens, and fruit-flavored water—all of which were deemed to be stereotypically black.

Despite an explanation from the head cook to Harris that the employees who planned the menu were African Americans, the student—and the school—were not having it.  MORE HERE

  6. Unfortunately, Aramark did not have access to vans with warming units to perform 250 dine and dashes at local Denny’s and IHOP’s in downtown and the surrounding Burroughs to supply an proper non-appropriated and culturally sensitive lunch.

  7. If the meal being served in the Cafeteria, don’t get triggered, buy a ham sandwich or go to a restaurant off campus and buy what you want.

    If the meal was provided free, shut up, eat elsewhere.

    I hate it when food gets politicized and used to create a racist argument. Since when did barbecued ribs, corn bread, collard greens, and fruit-flavored water— become exclusively stereo typically black food?

    I grew up in a small all white town, the closest black population was 36 miles away. We were eating that meal before we ever saw or met any black person.

    This snow flake and the flake business’s stupidity by acting on her feelings got two employees fired.

    Good job Aramark. Fools !

  8. i work for Aramark in another state. we were told we can’t make anything- not even a green cupcake- for St Patrick’s Day or a taco for Cinco de Mayo . all themed ethnic menus have to be approved by corporate now.

  10. Who the eff doesnt like BBQ ribs, corn bread, mac and cheese? Being a white honky, am I allowed to enjoy them? Btw, watermelon flavored water is quite popular in authentic Mexican joints. Who the eff doesnt like that either? My response to these grade A-assholes who are offended all the time is to simply say, “Yep. What are you going to do about it?”

If the cooks didn’t change the menu, they’d be fired for not serving up an food dedicated to black history month. Any food even remotely reminiscent of black history will then be deemed “racist” and the cooks would be fired. Damned if you do. Damned if you don’t. That’s what progtard cunts want to do to everybody.

    Fuck you blacktivists. Maybe you assholes don’t care about jobs but decent people do.

When I was a small child most of the colored (they hated the term “Black” back then) folks mostly lived in specific areas of the city, but there were exceptions sprinkled around the white trash neighborhoods such as ours. Thus it was that we had a colored family consisting of an old guy, his wife, and her sister living across the alley from us. All they had to cook on was an old wood stove, but I have never known anyone else who could take so little and make it taste so good. I was maybe four or five years old, and I would go over there and they would share their food with me. That’s where I learned to appreciate soul food – collard greens flavored with ham hocks, cornbread that would melt in your mouth,…you name it , they could cook it. On summer nights they would sit out in front of the house and burn a smudge pot to keep away mosquitoes (no air conditioning in those days) and tell stories. I wish I could recall some of them today, but I was very young. All I can remember was that the ghost stories were very spooky at the time. My earliest playmate was a young nephew of theirs who later died at an early age because of a congenital heart condition. Colored people didn’t have the best medical care back then, although that may not have made a difference in his case, dunno.

    Sometimes I wish I could go back in time and tell them how much they mean to me today because of their humanity, kindness, and generosity, but I can’t.

    So – Roy, Nettie, and Georgia, this is the best memorial I can give you. You are remembered, at least for a while, on the Internet.

    Now, if you will excuse me, I have something in my eye.

So some pissy young liberal attending an expensive school in order to obtain what is undoubtably a useless degree is responsible for the firing of employees because of bullshit that means nothing in the real world. And I’m betting one or more of the menu planners is black – so good job knucklehead, your triggered peabrain mind is more important than jobs people need.

    And good job administration to caving in to a 19 year old. The proper answer to this complaint by a 19 year old is “fuck you, come back when you’re older and hopefully wiser.”

  23. USS Wabash celebrated Martin Luther King Day with fired chicken, okra, collards, and watermelon on our return route to the US on her final WESTPAC. The cooks then were all Filipino, and they thought that was a great idea. We hit the Dateline that night, so had MLK day and the same menu again.

    I have never met anyone who really didn’t like fired chicken or watermelon, so why is it racist?
