That is driving Twitter to distraction? Makes sense, I guess.

I think there are seven triangles.
18
Four.
Without the horizontal lines, there are four.?
Without the horizontal lines, there are six.
Common core says 1 – close enough
But I say 21
I think Uncle Al is smarter than he looks. …smile… …Lady in Red
How dare you argue with me Uncle Al, do you know who I am?
I see 13
I get 18 but my brain hurts now
No wait. 16
Heh! @Moe Tom – I didn’t argue with you. I contradicted you! j/k

18.
Using the three horizontal lines as bottom lines, you get three structures of six triangles each. 3 x 6 = 18.
Or one.
Oops, 9
And besides, there are no right angle triangles there, you know?, the ones with the square of the hippotimus is equal to the sum of something or other. It’s called the hippopotamus theory, or theorem, or sumthin.
I am seeing 7 as well…… but what do I know?

I got 18, but saw real answer on Twitter. I will not divulge . . . yet.
Yup 9…

And the quick brown fox broke his phucking leg when he jumped over the lazy dog. Se there!
Moe Tom, you’re just pythagoring.
No, now I am seeing 16….. I need a drink!

That’s even worse. don’t you dare contradict me. LOL
17
Not all triangles are equal, but they all have three sides.
18?
I am driven to distraction…….

and I don’t even twit.
@Moe Tom – I’m reminded of an old shaggy dog story that ends with
I lost count after 21.
18^∞
There is no spoon.
actually there are 24 triangles.
Triangles are 2D. If you bisect it with a line it ain’t a triangle. So, three.
Bad Brad, correct. Twitter user @digamber posted graphic. I don’t want to post a link, because.
When calculating don’t forget the big triangle itself. 🙂

I counted 18
Maxine Waters say’s there are 69 and they are all black.
And who the phuck am I, or any of youse, to argue with, or contradict, that fine lady?
I started with each apex triangle and incorporated and outlined each descending triangle then added the others.
Of course now I doubt myself and have to go back to the drawing board
Dr. Tar “Not all triangles are equal”? Jesus Christ, that’s a terrible racist thing to say. Be careful what you say here. Boy Zuckenberg (?) may close us down.
@Moxie Man, @Bad_Brad – 24? I’d like to see that demonstrated, please.
what’s a triangle?
OK I had to go back to my “Audels Carpenters and Builders Guide” Vol 2, 1958.
There are no squares or rectangles in the sketch but I counted two right Trapeziums and three Isosceles Trapezoids, within the triangle, and three triangles within the main triangle. I rest my case. Four triangles without the horizontal lines, seven with them. Now I need a drink!
Now what’s the answer?
@Moe Tom – I get 18, but Moxie Man and Bad_Brad say 24.
Label the top point A
Label the four points on the 1st horizontal line B, C, D, and E
Label the four points on the 2nd horizontal line B’, C’, D’, and E’
Label the four points on the bottom line B”, C”, D”, and E”
The 18 triangles I see are:
ABC, ACD, ADE, ABD, ACE, ABE
AB’C’, AC’D’, AD’E’, AB’D’, AC’E’, AB’E’
AB”C”, AC”D”, AD”E”, AB”D”, AC”E”, AB”E”
It took me four separate tries (looking away and thinking about something else to clear my mind) but I finally figured it out to be 18. Each time I looked at it another grouping of triangles just popped out into view.
I was stuck at 10 for a while but now I see 18 — which is 17 more than anyone needs.

Four. The entire figure is one triangle. The top level forms three triangles. This assumes that problem assumes a triangle is only formed when there are three drawn lines to define it. It also assumes that undrawn lines should be considered as well, which would be cheating.
No, 7.
It’s Zonga or MJA.
Ahhh I see it now. 18.
LOL@ Merry.
Ha ha ha!
Fukkin tirangles!
Yeah, right!
Who put the bop in the bop she bop she bop
Who put the ram in the ram a dam a ding dong?
There’s no such thing as a fukkin tirangle! Youse guys are a laff!
Solution is a graphic on Twitter.
Open this: https://t.co/lrhXrWw5EP
Then scroll down. Solution ( 24 ) is there.
Looking through bifocals or with my naked eyes?
@Moxie
Look again. The guy who originally said 24 realized he was wrong a few comments later. His 24 solution had one too many horizontal lines. It’s 18.
@Jethro – Holy *)^&, you are correct!
My eyes deceived me (nothing new there)! It was on Twitter, so of course I thought it was true!
Now I feel smarter because my original guess was right.
What Jethro said.
The general answer is six times the number of horizontal lines, including the bottom.
Oh, oops. Thirteen?
18
Decades ago we had to create this figure with toothpicks then count the triangles.
Oh duh I forgot 6 of the triangles. Pl-l–l-l-l-b-b-b-b-b-b-b.
True answer: There are no triangles. What you perceive to be actual lines are nothing more than a lot of pixels on a display screen, the same as the “letters” you see which make up this comment.
If you don’t believe me, turn off the PC monitor or other device which you are using to view IOTWR and you will see that the triangles are no longer visible.
Kinda takes some of the fun out of porn when you think of it that way too, doesn’t it?
😉
I got 8 cowbells and I wanted for more…
