The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is in the process of making a final determination on taking the Black-Capped Vireo off the endangered species list. The bird calls the Southwestern states home and at one point was down to just 350 birds. Thanks to years of conservation efforts, their numbers are estimated to be around 14,000 now. More

Let me guess: Trump’s proposed border wall will somehow threaten this birds habitat.
Things started looking up for them when it was discovered that, in fact, they don’t taste like chicken.
I’m never sure how I feel about news like this. In my own county, for example, I’ve seen economically-viable projects that would provide desperately-needed jobs killed because the BLM or Forest Service conveniently found some bird or fish they deem needs to be protected. The results have been devastating in several instances. I don’t believe that kangaroo rats or pupfish or desert tortoises are more important than humans.
My guess is they were never down to 350 but they were caught fudging the numbers…………
The Vireo are near the border. It’s really brown capped illegal finches that have taken over the habitat and displaced the native Vireo
