    Example: If your mother’s picture was up there, Bob. And I said, “not even my ass look like that picture”. Don’t you think that’s offensive to your mother?

  97. @Aaron Burr (at 5:10 pm): The “Guess the Reader” picture you are referencing was the one before me – a reader named “Brüder Grimm”, who had only posted here once before in June, 2017. This is the one with me:

    I was just a young lad of 44 at the time, and full of beans.

    P.S. – The clue I gave to my identity was: 23, divided (halved).

    The 23rd letter of the alphabet is “W”. Divide it in half, you get “V V”.

    Not a very good clue, as it turns out. Moe Tom ID’ed me, but it was with a WAG.

    – Based on your lots of previous posts, you seem like an OK guy to me.
    – Even OK guys screw up from time to time, I sure know I do.
    – Long-winded defensive arguments virtually always make things worse, not better
    – Sometimes among friends it is best to say “OK. I understand and I apologize. I’m sorry I made that comment,” even if you don’t think you did anything wrong.
    – Take a deep breath and sit things out for a little while.

  104. When I left I asked Bob what he meant, “not even my ass looks like that picture.”

    To me it sounds like he was saying she’s not good looking, which is ludicrous because by any measure she is very pretty. In fact, some of the guys had already been saying so. And when she sent in the picture I complimented her on her looks and she told me something about the picture that validates that she is pretty. (The circumstances around the picture.)

    So I just wanted Bob to explain what was meant by “not even my ass looks like that.”

    I haven’t read a good explanation.

    No one is in any trouble, no one will be banned because I don’t do that (unless a reader becomes a chronic pill that just makes my life unnecessarily miserable.)

    This is unnecessary, but no one is making me miserable.
    Let’s keep it that way.

  111. Sorry, I just scrolled through all of the kerphuffel about whether or not anything was a joke or an insult or whatever without reading those comments. But a very pretty lady sent in her picture, I thank her for brightening my day with her smile (and the rest of her photograph if truth be told), and I have no clue as to who this is.

    Oops – just learned who this is before the edit time ran out. I would have never guessed – she doesn’t look scary enough to be a squadron leader.

    As for the REAL reason to post on here is the beautiful young lady that’s got this thread in such a tizzy. I’d need a list of who’s already been chosen and who remains to pick from but she looks like a winner in addition to being a stunner. Nice to know she’s a part of the team.

I’ve been here for a while and I can’t ever remember 99th posting anything that wasn’t right in line with how I think as a conservative. I’m assuming “Squadron Leader” has military implications. I’d like to hear that story. We’re lucky to have her here.

  131. First thank you, BFH for posting my “Guess the Reader” pic. I was 18 or 19 at the time of the picture, during the seventies. Never really thought I was that attractive, but not going to argue with the wonderful responses from fellow IOTWr readers. Yes, I’ve changed – life will do that.
    Oh my, didn’t expect the knock down drag out between MJA and Africa Bob.
    MJA, thanks for the outstanding respect you’ve shown on my behalf. I know you would do that for any reader you felt was being insulted.
    Africa Bob’s comment makes no sense. I’m not thin skinned, so, however that comment was meant, it’s on the reader who made it. I will not let offense rule the day. Believe me, as a black conservative offense comes with the territory.
    BFH, please don’t erase this thread! Despite African Bob’s misstep, it’s been great letting IOTWr readers get to know a little bit about each other and being featured in a IOTWr post is an ego boast, LOL. Besides, MJA’S one, two punches are priceless.

  148. I am humbled by the thought I served as a member of the U.S. military – sadly I have not. It is with great respect I chose the moniker, “99th Squad Leader”. It is in honor of The 99th Squadron. The first group of black American pilots of the U.S. Army Air (Corps) Forces. They were trained at Tuskegee Al. assigned to escorted U.S. fighter pilots on missions during WW II. I have a deep respect for all who’ve served our country and have no intention to appear a poser stealing valor. Please forgive my over enthusiasm if I’ve offened any service members here at IOTWr. Thank you for your service.
    About the pic. I won the title “Miss Elk 197_” in my county the year that picture was taken. Went to the state competition, but alas, didn’t win. For my talent, I recited a poem I wrote about being the best you can be in life. Those were the days!
