Who drinks this stuff, Jarritos Tamarind soda, and what do you think?
I’ve been drinking it a lot lately.

Lightly fizzy, okay flavor. I don’t regularly buy it because it has sugar.
It has a weak spicy sweet tea taste, to me.

Never heard of it
Jarritos is a popular brand of soft drink in Mexico, founded in 1950 by Don Francisco “El Güero” Hill and now owned by Novamex, a large independent bottling conglomerate based in Guadalajara, Jalisco, property of the Hill & ac. Co. It is also distributed in some areas of Mexico by the Pepsi Bottling Group and Cott.
Jarritos is made in fruit flavors and is less carbonated than popular soft drinks made in the United States or Canada. Many Jarritos varieties are naturally flavored. The word jarrito means “little jug” in Spanish and refers to the Mexican tradition of drinking water and other drinks in clay pottery jugs. Jarritos comes in 12.5 and 20-ounce glass and plastic as well as 1.5 liter bottles.
Sounds interesting. How is it on electrolyte replenishment?

Almost everybody in West Virginia drinks that stuff, except they call it Mountain Dew, and none of them have teeth anymore.

I used to order it occasionally (different flavors) with my machaca burritos when I lived in California and Nevada. Now that I am in PA, alas, Mexican food is a thing of my past (sigh). We have 2 “Mexican” restaurants in town, plus a Taco Bell. Of the three, I prefer Taco Bell. That should tell you a little something of the quality.
I can still get Jarritos at a couple of stores in town, but I don’t drink many soft drinks anymore.

Does it have what Plants crave?

I don’t usually drink pop but do like the occasional Jarrito Pineapple. Haven’t seen the tamarind flavor but it sounds good. Indian Tamarind sauce on fresh papadums is a little addictive.

Not a fan of sugary drinks. Occasionally Canada Dry with a bit of Jack, but that’s it.

I like their sangria grape drink

Good as sodas go not as sweet and carbonated as the stuff made here OR made for consumption here made somewhere else.
For instance the ‘Mexican Coke’ has real sugar cane as it’s basis for the sugar not the high fructose stuff
My vote is for Jarritos Lime.
Never had the Tamarind so I went out brought home and tried it:
Senior in Command – like drinking orange soda but not as sweet.
First Ensign – pretty good, would have again.
Second Ensign – smells and taste’s like dad’s feet in a bottle?
I thought it wasn’t THAT bad!
IF you like soda, the San Pelligrino series is pretty good.
Meh-hee-co makes VERY good beer…Modelo Especial…or is that another thread altogether?

@ ghost, “smells and taste’s like dad’s feet in a bottle?”…. might wanna get your sugar checked.

I bought a 2 liter of Cott’s Stars and Stripes diet cola at $ Tree last weekend. I really can’t tell it from most other colas. I see these Mexican sodas all over here in N.C. but have not tried. Maybe the Lime now that I know they make one.

Triple XXX Root Beer. “Makes thirst a joy.”

Mexico indeed makes some great beers. My fav is Bohemian. Modelo Negro is also good stuff. I guess they can get away with calling something dark “Negro” in Mexico. If only the rest of their culture could be as good as their beer. If Mexico dropped 75% of its population and got its act together, I’d approve of making it the 51st state!
I used to get shrimp in a Tamarind sauce at El Torito Grill(s) here in OC California, but I think its been taken off the menu. Damned good dish, IMO.
I could probably make it myself. There are Mexican markets around that probably sell this tamarind stuff, whatever it is.

High in carbs, sugar, calories, if you want to get diabetes, drink up.

The grapefruit flavor is awesome.

No. Diabetes is a genetic problem. I was 113 lbs never ate candy never drank soda and I got it. Also, you can be 300lbs and never become diabetic.
It’s a gene problem, not a size of your jeans problem. lol

What’s this stuff?
Some soda supposed to be good for ya
I’m not gonna try it, you try it!
I’m not gonna try it.
Let’s get Big Fur!
Yeah!
He won’t drink it, he hates everything!
He Likes it! Hey Big Fur!?

Considering that since WWII the average American consumes something like 100 pounds of sugar per year, I am looking for ways to not be so obvious about it, so I steer clear of sodas, more or less. Except nothing in the whole world beats an ice cold Coke-a-Cola when you are beyond parched. IMHO.

@ghost, @Tim – Add me to the list of Negra Modelo fans. It’s very good.
(And yes, for Spanish speakers who aren’t beer drinkers, it is Negra Modelo. “Negra” is the adjective describing “cerveza negra” meaning “dark beer”, and it is brewed by Grupo Modelo. Thus the apparent gender mismatch.)

What’s the matter with y’all.
If you’re gonna go all inclusive, a Yuengling Black & Tan can’t be beat.

Costco, in Seattle carries Coke, Sprite and Fanta Orange made in Mexico, in glass bottles and made with cane sugar, not HFCS. All of the above tastes better than their America counterpart.

I’d like to know how those West Virginny folks eat possums, squirrels, and porcupines without any teeth.
As Inspector Maigret would say: eet ees a meestair-ee.

Jarritos has become more common in my area with the increase in Latino immigration but I haven’t tried any of the sodas yet. I will now though. I don’t drink sodas much but when I want one I do prefer ones made with cane sugar and I like sodas that are less sweet than typical ones. Appreciate the heads up here. I never would’ve thought to try tamarind but I’m looking forward to it.
1
It’s not for everyone. One reviewer called it mango armpit soda.
The same guy said it tasted like the acid you get in your mouth pre-vomit.
I disagree. It’s like Ginger ale and ice tea, not so sweet, with a bit of some dry root spice. Not sure what.
3
It would go well with a shot of rye.
3
^ LOL. I like tamarind in ethnic food and based on what’s been said by you and others who like the soda, that it’s subtle, I’m pretty sure I’ll like it. I like ginger ale and iced tea a lot. And of course, as Plan B, you can never go wrong with a shot of rye.
2
I’m going to order a case of it for our next garage sale. I will make a killing from the not so local workers.
4
Saw it for the first time in Bethlehem PA last week…saw the sugar content and left it on the shelf…
@OpenTheDoor – I’m also quite fond of Yuengling porter.

We’ll see. I put some on the list for a Walmart grocery pickup.

Drinking this has been deemed cultural appropriation. Good job, hope some lib-tard cries if they see this.
