When will the left’s “conservative columnists” give up the gimmick?

Lone Conservative-

George Will. Max Boot. Jennifer Rubin. David Brooks.

A few years ago, the names of these prominent columnists would have reminded us that while most mainstream newspapers do lean to the left, there were a few prominent conservative voices present in their pages. But in the era of Trump, these “conservative columnists” are anything but. They’ve jumped on the anti-Trump bandwagon and chosen the left’s adoration over their commitment to conservative principles.

Max Boot just wrote an op-ed entitled “I left the Republican Party. Now I Want Democrats to Take Over.” George Will, long a conservative icon, penned a piece encouraging people to vote against the GOP this November.

Jennifer Rubin’s WaPo column, ironically still labeled “Right Turn,” has devolved into a demented stream of Trump Derangement Syndrome. She’s rallied against President Trump, #resisted the tax cuts, and rebelled against the pro-life cause — yet Rubin still presents herself as conservative, or at least as right-of-center. This gets to the heart of the issue with the left’s faux-conservative columnists — they allow newspapers and big media alike to feign intellectual diversity while actually existing as an echo chamber on the issues that matter most.

  1. Rubin and Will have been Bush Republicans for decades. George was a Bush Republican in ’76. If any Bush is a conservative they are as well.

But, since in honest speak the Bush Clan are leftist progressive; Boot, Ruben and will are honestly leftist. The LSM hates Ronny so thy label folk who do what Ron was against and fight what Ron was for as a smear on Ron.
And – BTW – it worked. “respected” pols showed 35% -40% Americans said Republican in ’89. by ’16 they said 22% to 28%. the LSM tricked lots into think Bush and Ruben were conservative republican.

  2. Will especially has always had some inconsistencies in his “conservatism”, an example was his view on the Panama Canal decision.
I think what also figures strongly into this is the crumbling of the status quo. They were all comfortable on their lofty perches until Trump began shaking the tree. They see this as a personal threat to their positions.

  3. They aren’t worth talking about in the long run – just more “twiterati” in the sandstorm of 21st century politics.

Will only likes “bush” league baseball! The bushes aren’t in Trump’s league!

  4. It’s been more than a few years for all of these Democrat columnists. Calling them conservatives is akin to CNN’s apple and banana gimmick.

  5. Even the “Lone Conservative” is a fraud. He writes “The president does deserve criticism when he makes callous comments like he did post-Charlottesville,” What did Trump say post-Charlottesville? THAT BOTH SIDES WERE TO BLAME.

Anyone who cannot agree that the left destroying property and beating others for holding opposing views is blameless isn’t worth reading and that’s where I stopped.

  6. When will the left’s “conservative columnists” give up the gimmick?

When there are no more leftist outlets. To pay them to play “not the Democrat”.

Except George Will. He might move over to NFL color commentary. If the money’s right. (Football, baseball. Democrat, Republican. Close enough government work.)

  7. Have these idiots not noticed that they have no equivalent quislings on the left? We sure have noticed. It’s about time for the Ship of Fools Cruise. May Francesco Schettino be their captain.

  8. Trotsky was “moderate” as compared to Stalin.
Rohm was “moderate” as compared to Himmler.
Yagoda and Yezhov were “moderate” as compared to Beria.

Your point of view always depends upon where you stand.

  9. George Will, the definitive argument that the establishment has permeated the likes of political pundits.

Will is the smartest political pundit on the partisan talk shows.
Don’t believe it? Ask the arrogant asshole.

  10. Globalist-communists have long been experts at infiltrating and spreading disinformation. William F. Buckley, George Will, Bill Kristol, and others have been nothing more than traitorous paid opposition who have always compromised with prevailing socialist opinion.

  11. Back in the early ‘90’s Will wrote a whole piece on how in college during bull sessions he’d rejected the whole idea of limited government and come to a progressive big government view of things.

    > If they try to win the owners would fire them.

If they ever expressed any interest in winning, they’d be fired.

If they had ever expressed any interest in winning, they’d have never been hired.

  13. Phony conservatives have argued at least going back to ‘92 that we should all vote democrat so we could teach the republicans a lesson and see how bad things could really get.

Hey, when listing fake conservatives , don’t leave out that miserable scrunt Peggy Friggin’ Noonan.
