DC: Twitter’s censorship problem looks like it’s here to stay.
The company faced a sharp backlash last week after a Vice News investigation revealed that Twitter was hiding several prominent Republicans from its search bar.
Those affected included four House Republicans: Rep. Devin Nunes of California, Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida, Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio and Mark Meadows of North Carolina. All four are members of the conservative House Freedom Caucus. Democrats weren’t affected in the same way, Vice found.
Nunes is looking at taking legal steps against Twitter, he said in a Fox News interview on Sunday. “It sure looks to me like they are censoring people and they ought to stop it,” the California Republican said. “We are looking at any legal remedies to go through.”
Gaetz announced on Friday that he is bringing a Federal Election Commission (FEC) complaint against Twitter, accusing the company of making an illegal in-kind donation to his opponents by suppressing his account.
At the center of the company’s censorship problem is its decision to penalize “bad-faith actors,” who aren’t actually in violation of any rules but still threaten “healthy conversation.”
Much the sorting between good and bad actors on Twitter is done by an algorithm which takes into account criteria like whom you follow and tweet at, and who follows and tweets at you.
Twitter didn’t penalize the congressmen because of anything they said, but because the “wrong” accounts were engaging with their tweets, two Twitter executives conceded in a blog post Thursday. The Republicans were guilty of being followed by the wrong people. more here
Libs cry an cry about the “Fairness Doctrine” cause Conservative talk radio manhandles lib radio when it comes to ratings. Yet they cheer when conservatives are silenced on social media cause you certainly don’t see them wanting fairness there.
Now that their bias against freedom of speech been revealed the public
is dropping the scum in the can.
Why use a service that twists reality
to further socialism?
Never used Twitter and never will.
If conservative people don’t use it, it will eventually fail like liberal talk radio.
Except Pres. Trump. His tweets are his way of going around the lap dog media and Twitter doesn’t yet dare to ban him in any fashion.
We need to start a movement that publicly boycotts Twitter, Facebook, Google etc. The reason they are able to get away with it is because most people don’t know about it. There has to be a way to get awareness out there on social media. There has to be a way to affect their profits. There’s an article out there from last week talking about Facebook stock plummeting. If conservatives were to stop using these platforms and use smaller platforms it would force them via loss of profits to change the formatting. I like Devon Nunez’s idea about bringing FEC lawsuits against Twitter for giving illegal donations by suppressing his platform. We have to find a way to fight these leftist goons. C’mon, we are smarter than them.
Many people are on Twitter because POTUS uses it to communicate with us. There is actually a large conservative presence on the platform and it is/was a good way to share information. I have been shadowbanned despite never posting anything offensive. Most of the people I follow have also been shadowbanned. These users have started using a red X in their profile name to identify ourselves. It quickly becomes clear that virtually everyone with a conservative bent is being shadowbanned.
The solution IMO is not to abandon the platform (unless another viable one comes along), but to take the fight to Twitter and make them clean up their act. I’m glad Gaetz is addressing this.
30 years of working for a tech company, carrying a cell phone, blackberry and a pager 24/7 was enough for me. Imprison yourself in a verbal spin loop but I like actual free time verse virtual phony free time.
Amen, Perry. I refuse to enter the digital gaslight chambers.
