American Masters: Basquiat

The PBS series “American Masters” must be running out of worthy individuals to profile. Their most recent episode was an hour-and-a-half feature on the short life (OD’ed at 28) of prolific self-promoter Jean-Michel Basquiat.

Somebody must like his work. One of his pieces fetched $110.5 million at auction in May 2017.

  1. Soooo……. basically, rich white bat sh!t crazy new york artists and critics took this kid from the ghetto, sucked the life out of him, and then spent the next 30 years ignoring other black artists.

Damn he must be a gravy train.

  2. Oh my gosh! The apartment complex that I live in has old fashioned, bare wood, unfinished picnic tables for the use of residents.

Someone let their children paint rocks on the tables, without putting down paper. The result is splashes, splots, smears, handprints, brush overstrokes, and rock-outlines of every primary color and mixtures of those colors, PLUS bird poop, all over the table and its benches.

That table looks like a Jean-Michel piece of art(?) .
