German WWII Plane Crashes On The 101 In Los Angeles

DC: A German Bf-109 crashed Tuesday in Los Angeles, and the video is wild.

TMZ reported the following:

The plane slammed down Tuesday afternoon on the 101 Highway in Agoura Hills — just outside L.A. —  and went up in flames. Somehow, the pilot managed to avoid any cars on the freeway, and reportedly got it down cleanly … until one of the wings clipped the center divider. That’s when the fuel ignited.

The pilot was the only person on board, and was somehow uninjured.

  1. Sorry, but from the landing Video’s the nose look is ALL wrong for a German Bf-109…. Google images of BF-109 it a see.

It looks more like a Grumman Hellcat F6F just painted with German emblems.

D-Day: [to Bluto] War’s over, man. Wormer dropped the big one.
Bluto: What? Over? Did you say “over”? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!
    Otter: [to Boon] Germans?
    Boon: Forget it, he’s rolling.
Bluto: And it ain’t over now. ‘Cause when the goin’ gets tough…
[thinks hard of something to say]
Bluto: The tough get goin’! Who’s with me? Let’s go!

  3. It’s a WW2 US trainer, most likely a North American T-6. Popular and (relatively) cheap warbird to own. These always show up in movies with German or Japanese markings (i.e. “Zero” fighters in Tora! Tora! Tora!). Actual flying examples of BF-109/ME-109 and FW-190 aircraft are as rare as hen’s teeth. Flyable Zeros are even more rare, and even most of those have American engines.

  4. I’ve been getting annoying popup ads from Comcast all day saying that I’ve won a $1000 gift card from Walmart for being a loyal customer that have effectively blocked me from IOTW. They’ve finally gone away in the past couple of hours. I figure it has to be some kind of scam.
