Oh, My Lord, I Am Losing Patience With Stupid People

Rant on/

Sometimes you reach a breaking point with stupid people on social media, especially with political arguments, and you just want to gouge people’s eyes out and shake the bloody orbs in the direction of whatever it is they are not seeing.

It gets so frustrating that I start to wonder if maybe I’m the stupid one, because the people who I think are stupid are arguing so vociferously. How can one be so wrong and insisting they are right?

So I take a break from the politics and maybe find some solace in sports, and then this happens.

Pinko sent me a clip of a “trick play” used by Miami against Wichita in a college game from the 80s.

For some reason I decided to look at the comments on Facebook. I shouldn’t have. My Lord, THESE STUPID PEOPLE VOTE!!!!

First the play—>

Here’s what happens.

The pitcher properly breaks with the rubber by stepping off to the back of it. Once he does this he can dance the can-can if he so desires. He is now a fielder.

He decides to fake a throw to first, only the fake throw is sold as a wild throw by all of the other fielders, as well as coaches and people in the dugout.

The runner, thinking the throw is down the line, takes off for second, only to be tagged out by the shortstop who receives the ball from the pitcher, who had it all along.

Nice trick play.

Now, for the IDIOTS!!!!!  (I won’t publish the names because what good is humiliating these morons when there are millions more like them?)

-That’s a balk. All the above are correct, ball must be thrown to the first base bag, not the firsbaseman. Sorry, ump, you blew it, and the manager needs to learn the rules.

I have no idea what this idiot is saying. But they sound authoritative, don’t they?

Yeah, I’ve seen the same attitude in political arguments.

-You can’t fake a pick off to first it’s a balk.

(In my best Trump voice) Wrong!

Yep you cannot fake a throw. Has to be thrown. Rule 8.o5

Wrong!

Then we have this gem? This dope doesn’t even know where the ball was.

pitcher can’t be on the rubber without the ball. Balk is the right call.

Now this guy, who agrees it’s not a balk, but not for the right reasons.

You can fake to an occupied base.

Then we have this remark, which isn’t even germane to the play.

pitcher can’t take signs not being on the rubber

And now a guy that has to come at it obliquely, and wrongly, with his “outside the box” two cents.

That’s obstruction and should not have been called out. The runner was obstructed when the fake tag was applied. Safe all the way. The pitcher doesn’t have to throw the ball. All he has to do is step back to avoid the balk.

There was no “fake tag” applied. The 1st baseman never touched him, at any time.

Now we have the Professor from the School of Know Nothing.

Its a balk.First baseman foot is outside of baseline.Rules state that all players must be in fair territory when pitcher is engaged with the pitching plate.You never see it called but happens a lot.Only exception is the catcher

There is no such thing as a 1st baseman’s balk, and, ironically, there is such thing as a catcher’s balk.

An ump can simply tell the 1st baseman to get his foot inside the chalk. There is no penalty on a specific play that develops with a first baseman’s foot outside the chalk.

If the ump repeatedly warns the player and they keep doing it, the player can be ejected. But there is no “offense reward”, like a runner advancing a base, when the 1st baseman does it.

And now we get into “Bud” territory.

Bud was a reader that left the site because I described what the proper play for a defense should have been when a safety intercepted the ball in the final 20 seconds of a football game. They were up by one when he made the interception.

The player ran it in for a touchdown. The right play was to go out of bounds at the 1 yard line. That way you retain the ball and take a knee, game over.

Going up by 8 means you have to kick the ball back to your opponents, giving them a chance to tie the game with a TD and a 2 point conversion.

Bud said he “hated people like me” who used the rules rather than just play the game.

I said he hated me because he lost to people who were smarter than him.

He left the site.

Here are three idiots.

-It most definitely is not a balk, but I do say it’s a pussy move!

-A. This is without a doubt, NOT a balk and anyone that says it is, does not know baseball.
B. This is a little league (pussy play) that I can’t believe was used at that level.

– hate any trickery in baseball. It has always been a gentlemans game and a true gentleman does not use tricks or deception in order to win. That is little league stuff. This had to be a last hope situation because that is pathetic.

Only a non-player would say a player does not use trickery in order to win.

Here are examples of trickery that happen all the time, and it’s the better players that use them.

-Runner takes off for second on a hit and run play. The batter gaps one. The shortstop sees that the runner did not see where the ball was hit. The shortstop goes into a pantomime of a routine double play in order to get the runner to slide at second, hoping they don’t advance to third.

-Runner at second. One out. Batter hits a ball that the outfielder knows is going to go over his head. He stands there with his glove up as if it’s a can of corn in order to keep the runner from taking off for home.

-Runner at third. Runner acts as if he is going to steal home in order to induce a balk out of a panicked pitcher.

-Runner at first. Just as the pitcher releases the ball the runner fakes a steal of second. They’re hoping to disrupt the defense, getting a catcher prematurely up and out of his receiving position in order to steal a strike, or having a middle-infielder break for second.

Are these “pussy moves”?

What about when the defense stacks the right side of the infield when a lefty pull hitter is at the plate? Pussy move?

What about squaring to bunt and then taking a hack at the ball when the fielders break in? Pussy move?

What about a squeeze play? Pussy move?

What about a manager sending a player to the on-deck circle, that he has no intention of sending to the plate, in order to force the opposing manager into a tough decision? Pussy move?

I’m afraid people who think things are “pussy moves” are simply stupid, and they are frustrated with their inability to utilize brains in order to succeed at sports.

Rant off/

  1. I wouldn’t play sports if you couldn’t learn the rules and then use them for a competitive advantage.
    That’s half the fun. Well, 1/10th the fun.
    It’s fun to think of creative legal ways to win.

    11
  2. Better choreography than a Micheal Jackson video.
    Watched it three times before I realized they explained it further into the video.
    Baseball is the last professional sport I will consider watching.
    “There’s no crying in baseball.” – Jimmy Dugan

    6
  3. Little League coaches used to send kids to the plate and tell them to just stand there, hoping to eek out a walk.

    Was that a pussy move?

    I tell you what it was. It was a motivator. I never, ever, would want a coach to tell me to just stand there. I learned to hit to avoid that humiliation.

    lol.

    8
  4. Robinson Cano is still a good ball player. Being a Mariners fan I’ve had a opportunity to watch him play. His range at 2nd base isn’t as good as it was, but I like him. He really screwed up getting caught taking that masking agent though.

    1
  5. Yeah, but he was taking PEDs.
    What happens when he goes clean?
    He blows out a knee, gets a bad back?

    He’s 36 and is under the microscope about whatever it is he was doing to play his 150-160 games a year.

    Point is, the Mets will always find a way to make a bad decision.

    3
  6. This clip showed a variation of a play that is not that infrequent. Batter hits what is turns out to be an infield single, and the first baseman starts running into foul territory in order to induce the runner to try for second even though the fielder didn’t attempt a throw to first. Or a throw is late to second on a steal attempt, and the covering defender takes a couple to steps to the outfield as though he missed the throw. Or, much simpler, the first baseman fakes tossing the ball back to the pitcher after an unsuccessful pick off attempt hoping the runner will wander off the bag. Teams also work on the pitcher cut-off when a runner on first takes off for second and the catcher fires the ball back to the pitcher trying to get the runner on third breaking for home on a supposed throw to second.

    There is a lot of trickery in baseball, and if there is blame for this play, it is on the first base coach who is actually allowed to yell instructions or warnings to the runner. But this particular deception was very well executed and I enjoyed it.

    7
  7. When Cano came back from an 80 game suspension he hit over 300, had key hits, key rbi’s, and was still a team leader. I bad mouthed him for his suspension but he came back ready to play and played well. He clearly has fun playing the game.

    1
  8. Todd Gurley of the Rams made a great team play last week. They were ahead and he broke for a touchdown, but instead opted to go down at the 2-yard line so they could burn more clock.
    Sometimes rules can be annoying, but as long as the refs are playing fair both teams have the same chances at winning.

    3
  9. You mean a pussy play like the Dolphins? Forward pass and 2 crazy laterals and 52 yards for a game-winning TD? There ought to be a law!

    There goes any hope for home field throughout the playoffs! Grrrhhh!

  10. The Seattle Mariners are going to suck again next season, so what else is new. We’re getting rid of all of our good players in exchange for what. It’s far cheaper and better to go to a Spokane Indians baseball game even if they’re a Single A team with a short 3 month season. I love baseball and I love Safeco Field but it’s getting harder and more expensive every year to go a ball game there so I guess I’ll stick to listening to baseball on the radio. And the parking is still free in the dirt parking lot next to Avista Stadium.

    2
  11. When i played beer league softball, (i played 3rd base because i wasnt a pussy at the hot-corner), after a hit, and if an advancing runner was coming to 3rd base, I would get into position at 3rd to make the runner think the ball was coming to me from the throw by an outfielder. A lot of times, the runner would retreat back to 2nd, thinking I was about to catch the ball and tag the runner.

    In beer league softball, this is a HUGE faux pas. It is actually against the rules. It is a sign of poor sportsmanship and generally just being a dick. Trick plays in baseball, (or drunk softball for that matter), is bullshit. Yep, its within the rules but dickish. But that’s why a fastball “up and in” are ok in my book. Players need to monitor the play of opposing players to make sure its played gentlemanly. There is a reason why hockey has a tradition of fighting: to keep the opposing players from being dicks.

  12. BFH,

    You were wrong. You must have misread my one simple comment. I cannot think of any reason other than it was a mistake. YOUR mistake. But instead of owning it, like a man, you double down on stupid, post another mistake, delete that post, ignore the “vociferous” yet lucid reply, then create a thread about the “stupid” people on social media.

    Bravo. I’ve now lost enough respect to unfollow you.

  13. I was arguing for hours and hours with 3 or 4 lefties about the Cohen sentencing recommendation. When the “Andrew C. McCarthy” article was auto-posted to Twitter the link was called “Andrew C. McCarthy- Trump likely to be indicted.”

    Semper responded back with a vague response that could be taken 2 ways.

    I was arguing with 4 lefties when his notification came in.

    So when “For not committing a crime?” came in it could be taken sarcastically, like
    “If Trump didn’t commit a crime why is McCarthy saying he is likely to be indicted.”

    I responded with “read the article, stupid.”

    Instead of responding with a quick , “whoa, read again, I’m on your side,”
    he writes-
    “I would argue that incorrectly misreading, alienating or insulting your base (followers in your case) is more stupid.

    Or do you think that a crime was actually committed which justifies an indictment?”

    How does this alert me to my misunderstanding?

    I explained in 2 tweets why McCarthy said the indictment of Trump would be difficult to follow to conviction.

    I deleted a third tweet when I realized the guy wasn’t one of the lefties arguing with me.

    Apparently he wants skywriting apologies, or something.
    This happens often enough on Twitter that it’s become routine that you just chalk it up to crossed wires and move on.

    But this guy is obsessed, resurrecting the deleted tweet and following up on it over here.

    I guess he really is demanding an apology.

    Okay, I’m sorry you were so taken aback by a common Twitter error that you want to make a Mueller-like indictment over it.

    lol

    7
  14. Oh FFS, Navigator, Come on, dude. The fact is, YOU misunderstood BFH from the beginning, without reading the story, and you acted accordingly.

    You could have just said, WHOA, Fur you got it wrong, instead of slamming him right off the bat. What was he supposed to think after you did that? You confirmed his thought of you as troll #5.

    You could have laughed it off, but you went full on butthurt victim mode.
    See ya.

    4
  15. By the way.
    Here’s a good tip for not allowing a molehill to become a mountain.

    A quick.. “this is Navigator. We’re having failure to communicate,” would be all that was necessary for us to have a laugh over it.

    5
  16. Oh, btw. You know how to get an apology from someone?
    Don’t be a dick, first.
    JSYK.

    I’m about sick of the sensitive MF’s on our side (Facebook was full of them last week).
    So I’ll be going before I start my own rant post. LOL.

    5
  17. I’m back on twitter after being permanently banned. I use an oblique name and hit and run on the Libtards. Been doing this for a couple months and no suspensions YET. I’ve garnered more followers than I did previously in a shorter period of time with zero description on my profile. Just sayen, it’s a lot of fun.

    5
  18. I was the only person who commented on your Twitter thread. So I’m stupid because YOU confused who you were arguing with? That’s my fault?

    A simple look at my avatar of a lion’s head and the acronym MAGA underneath should’ve been your “alert” that maybe I’m on your side? But I guess I’m “stupid” for not pointing that out to you??

    It’s not obsession, guy. It’s making a point. You didn’t own up to anything nor did you simply “chalk it up to crossed wires and move on”.

    YOU STARTED A THREAD ABOUT IT. See above. So much for moving on, ehh?

    For a common error, a common apology would’ve been in order. A skywritten one wouldn’t be necessary. A simple “my bad” would’ve sufficed.

    I didn’t get anything but this insultus thread. Thanks? But don’t bother. I think we’re done here.

    1
  19. “I was the only person who commented on your Twitter thread.”

    NO you were NOT. Obviously. Lol.

    And YOU misunderstood FUR from the beginning because of the title of the article. That’s your issue. He doesn’t owe you an apology because you jumped on him for the wrong reason to begin with.

    And, I thought you were leaving?

    4
  20. This post isn’t about you, it’s about baseball.

    And you think the mention of arguing with stupid people on social media is about the short minor exchange we had earlier today?
    Are you kidding?
    I get notifications all day. I’m still arguing with 2 of them RIGHT NOW.
    Here’s a thread.
    Notice it says “23 seconds ago.” (But you’re the only one on my timeline.. lol)

    We aren’t there yet… just wait. And if you know Trump is individual-1 and still don’t think he’s guilty of a felony, then you either don’t understand what you are reading, or you have read enough.

    Yes, it is. It’s in the constitution that a sitting president can’t do business dealings with another country without congress consent.

    Constitution’s emoluments Clause… it bars presidents from taking payments from foreign states without Congress’s consent. There is a HUGE paper trail showing that he intended to and did violate this clause.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    You’re hung up on the line I tweeted,
    “Read the article, stupid.”
    Any other reader on this site would have said to themselves , “uh oh, BFH is seeing my tweet as combative, ” and tweeted a quick “reread brother, I’m an iOTWer.”
    You didn’t do that. You followed up with a tweet saying I was the stupid one because I’m “alienating followers” and then asked-
    Or do you think that a crime was actually committed which justifies an indictment?
    This also can be construed as a lefty questioning if I really harbored a deep seated feeling that Trump was a criminal.
    Again, simply saying, “hey, I’m Navigator” would have worked fine.
    It seems you’re really hung up on my line about saying “read the article, stupid,” even when you now know it was a case of crossed wires.
    Why would it bother you? No, seriously.
    3
  21. Navigator, first of all, he wasn’t just talking to YOU. He was arguing with several people and you wandered in. How complicated is that?
    2nd, you said you were unfollowing him. Yet you are back again. And again.
    I thought you were leaving? You can’t quit him. Admit it. 😉
    3
  22. Navigator
    Your deal. lot a hate going on here. We need every conservative on the same page on twitter. Conservatives fighting between each other does NO good. Ya gotta support the known conservative pal. My last word on the matter. Your decision. You’d be better off not tweeting at all.
    3
  23. MJA,
    Speaking of vain, this isn’t about you. You’re noise. This is between me and Fur – so why don’t you pipe down – unless you think you’re being helpful?
  24. OK so let me summarize this.
    1. you misunderstood something fur posted.
    2. he got snippy because he thought you were one of the trolls he was arguing with.
    3. instead of you telling him “hey, I’m a conservative” you got snippy.
    4. he got snippy back.
    5. you came all the way over to iotw, the site, to tell him you were quitting him, instead of telling him and then actually quitting him on Twitter, where it would make sense.
    6. you keep coming back instead of chalking it up to a misunderstanding, rolling your eyes and leaving because… why? ohhh because you think this thread is about YOU.
    Well, YOU made it about you NOW. Congrats!
    (so sensitive!)
    And now I’m bored.
    4
  25. BB-
    We’re not even fighting because of competing ideology!!!
    We’re fighting over a processing error, and frankly I’m getting bored with this.
    I can post Nav’s comment which implied that I’m pro-Trump indictment.
    I thought this guy “knew me.”
    Apparently not.
    Actually, I’m going back to my original comment.
    READ THE ARTICLE!
    Nav,
    Rereading your twitter comments, I don’t think ya did.
    If you want to make this a “thing” that causes you to exit you really didn’t think that highly of the site to begin with.
    I’ve had bigger kerfuffles with Bad Brad over the years, and not because of misunderstandings that got out of hand, and the guy is on this thread playing peacemaker.
    That’s how it’s done. and I don’t recall him ever demanding an apology for an insult that he knew was a shoe that didn’t fit.
    That’s just insane, frankly.
    What am I supposed to be apologizing for, not readily understanding that your tweet wasn’t anti-Trump?
    It seems to me that you’re demanding that I say “I’M STUPID” in front of all the readers.
    You think that’s gonna happen?
    lol
    6
  26. Fur,
    I’m always defending the President. I’m one of the few people who like, comment and retweet your posts. Look at my tweets and replies. You even follow me for God’s sake. Did you know that?
    I asked you to clarify “stupid”. You replied by calling me “lazy”. Then you immediately started a thread regarding “stupid” people. Of all days. After just calling me stupid.
    That’s a stretch in your opinion?
  27. 6pak-
    Begrudgingly, I think if the entire baseball world has gone to the DH, I think the NL should follow suit.
    It’s an imbalance that actually does have an effect on outcomes, careers, etc.
    I hate it, but I think it should be implemented.
    4
  28. Fuck you FUR. LOL. Gotta an impacted molar. Showed up on Saturday morning. Jack Daniels is the only cure. Worked all week end with my toes curled. This shit sucks. That’s my excuse for the following. In case you don’t get it, I’m IOTW faithful. I’m conservative faithful.
    3
  29. LMAO. Yes, noisy, I came “all the way over here”
    One click. LOL. That was quite the travel.
    He’s the one who misunderstood. He could’ve clarified. I asked him too, on Twitter. I got nothing but a stupid thread.
    Now bugger off, straps.
  30. It does seem inevitable, and I don’t like it. Just think if in 1914 there was a designated hitter, we may not have ever seen Babe Ruth hit 714 home runs. Well, I guess I didn’t see it either. Something that drives me nuts here in the Seattle area is the annual campaign to get Edgar Martinez elected to the Hall of Fame. 2 things on that, he wasn’t a good enough fielder to play a position, and he is not the best hitter of all time. This position doesn’t make me very popular with my wife, until I remind her he signed his autograph on her baseball in disappearing ink.
    3
  31. Whoa – I went to a baseball thread and a some sort of political fight broke out. For what it’s worth, I like the designated hitter, and I don’t think Pence can hit a curveball so Trump needs to stay in office.
    6
  32. Yes, I know I follow you.
    Yes, I know you followed me.
    Do you know that I do not see every notification because I get hung up on a particular one and then never go deep enough to read all the ones that I didn’t see?
    Until 15 minutes ago I never saw this notification. (Once you click on them they are all treated as read whether they are or not.)
    Uhhh… you writing to me like that, Fur? Why?? Trump, it could be argued, was extorted. There was no crime in what he did, indictment or not.
    Now would you like care to clarify “stupid” before I unfollow you?>>
    Reading the comments now tells me that you’re reacting to my post title as if I’m saying Trump should be indicted.
    You didn’t read the article. So I’m picking up on a negative vibe in the tweet.
    I’m not going to demand that you admit that you didn’t read the article and you were confronting me in a combative way.
    I don’t really care at this point, and I don’t know why you still do.
    This post was not about you, and you know it, or should know it, because I deleted the tweet where I said you had TDS.
    I realized pretty late in the game that you weren’t a Trump hater.
    I have no idea, at this point, what you’d be demanding an apology for.
    An apology to you personally? For what?
    That you were mistaken for a lefty?
    You think I’m a beta male and you can exert some sort of dominance over me publicly over something you now know was a misunderstanding?
    You really don’t know me, do ya?
    2
  33. Nope. I never thought that’s what you meant – that Trump SHOULD be indicted. NEVER even crossed my mind. I knew EXACTLY what you and your link were referring to. It’s old news, actually – just a new read. This unsubstantiated, most probable impending indictment (sounds sexy, doesn’t it), has been argued ad nauseam and will continue to be.
    And I know you “don’t really care.” That’s the point – even when you effed up. And if you didn’t realize, after all that, you were writing to an ally, that’s disappointing. Stupid even. I’ll keep my distance to try and avoid getting hit by friendly fire.
    I’m really sorry it came to this (was that hard to write?) FFS blogs are a dime a dozen. Show some respect to your readers.
    We’ve all wasted enough time here so I’m off to destroying liberals. Best of luck, but this is where we part ways. And tell your mom anklestraps that I said goodbye…for good.
  34. I have a rant about how when I called the cops for help today they refused to protect me and my kids and told me to shut up and I have been hiding in my bedroom with my son all night because nobody will help us here
  35. Soo,
    A naked lady walks into a bar carrying a poodle in one hand and a three foot salami in the other…
    Bartender says “well I guess you won’t be needing a drink”…
    Naked lady says “I got these for my husband”
    Bartender says “GOOD TRADE !”
    End of joke in the Breakfest Club
    No Offense, sincerely, WTF is been going on here!
    Hope all is well
    No disrespect meant.
    No LIVE PD tonite
    1
  37. Octogenarian, 80 years old? Happy damn birthday! You should have announced it earlier, BFH or MJA probably would have posted a picture of a cake with a blazing fire on top.
  38. “Welcome in my fox hole any time pal. And that times coming.”
    Bless you Brad, always have enjoyed your pride in this country as well!
    A very decent human once told me to re-invent myself. I’m so grateful for that here at IOTW.
  39. The real trickery exists in Wii Sports. Throw someone 3 fastballs in a row, follow that up with a slow slider that bounces before the plate. Your victim will always swing and miss that slider. If your victim is a child, be prepared for a tantrum. 🙂
