I recall President Ronald Reagan mentioning that the FBI’s files on King would make interesting reading when he signed the bill making King’s birthday a national holiday. Now, the date when the truth about the Reverend Martin Luther (not is given name by the way) King will be put off for another decade or more. If the truth had been revealed back then, would King have been honored with a national holiday?
Robert E. Lee and Thomas Jonathan Jackson never molested any of their slaves or cheated on their wives with prostitues, yet their statues are being removed, while King’s are being erected. Release the tapes, so the truth can be revealed and set us free.

I remember watching Bryant Gumbel castigating Ralph Abernathy for writing about King’s philandering on NBC. That was at least twenty years ago, but these new details are more likely to tarnish King’s reputation than what was known before.
Who can believe the FBI? The same bad actors back then are the same bad actors now, liars. I dunno if MLK did those things — it’s probable. But as Hillary says “what difference does it make?” Ask a millennial who MLK was and they couldn’t tell you.
the singular source of this story has a book coming out about it. That couldn’t have anything to do with it could it? I’ll wait for the tapes to form a definite opinion. Until then, I can believe that it might be true, but also that he was being slimed very hard by hoover’s fbi. As for his statue in Washington, DC- send that piece of crap back to china.

As for J. Edgar Hoover being a cross dresser, that slander was started by a homosexual writer who had absolutely no evidence that anyone ever saw Hoover in a woman’s clothing. Liberals and Radicals hated the FBI, and jumped on this story after Hoover died as a means of slandering that agency. There is also no evidence that Clyde Tolson was involved in a longstanding homosexual relationship with Hoover, although they were best friends and often seen together in public. This was not something that Hoover tried to hide during his lifetime, like homosexuals did during those days. J. Edgar Hoover was a much better Director of the FBI than most of the men who followed him in that office.

Owning another human being is already disgusting, it doesn’t matter if they didn’t also rape them. Those people defended something that can not be defended. They’re not moral angels for not having committed other horrible things. They only had to be slave owners to be guilty of doing something horrible.
Oohknipkinja: Slavery was a fact of life in the United Sates of America during all of its existence up until the War Between the States. That’s the main reason that this country engaged in a Civil War. My point was that Lee and Jackson were highly moral men who defended Virginia against invaders. The reason they are remembered with statues throughout the South is because of their brilliant generalship during that war. They owned slaves through inheritance, but they didn’t molest the females or mistreat any of them. They were both great Americans.
Martin Luther King was not a flawless man, but most Americans consider him to be a great American for his role during the Civil Rights movement. John F. Kennedy had more extramarital affairs and casual sexual encounters than King, but he is still considered to be a great American. However, he wasn’t a Reverend, preaching the gospel and pretending to be a paragon moral leadership. That’s the difference in my opinion.
