The Drake equation (formulated in 1961) speculated on the likelihood of there being other life in the universe. Carl Sagan famously explained the equation on his PBS series “Cosmos.”

Scientist today are saying that though they’ve been finding planets circling distant stars, most are shrouded in poisonous clouds of gas and even those in the “habitable zone” have atmospheres incapable of sustaining life. More

  1. That makes the Earth the figurative, if not literal, center of the universe.

    Atheist scientists have been squawking for decades that Earth is not the center of the universe, so the Bible is wrong, blah, blah.

    1) God is at the center of the universe. (Unless on vacation.)
    2) The universe is an experiment, God is somewhere outside. (Yikes.)
    3) God IS the universe.

    So was the primordial earth. Photosynthetic and methanogenic life created the oxygen rich, low CO2 and HC atmosphere. If astronomers do find a oxygen rich atmosphere, they can be sure there is a lot of life on that planet.

    The rarer that life is, the better the chance of avoiding predation from a more advanced civilization.
    However, seeing the extreme environments life can live in, I bet there’s lots of rudimentary life out there.
    Life like us, not so much.

  18. I certainly don’t think we should worry about whether or not there is other life out there… we’re never gonna know.

    I do however, believe that the likelyhood of plant life and m a y b e some kind of animal life being on another planet is very real.
    But there are no other beings as intelligent or important as us simply because God made us in his image so nothing tops it.

  19. The likelihood that life is unique to one planet in the entire universe is statistically so close to zero as to be nonexistent. There are 100 billion stars in the Milky Way galaxy and there could be up to 2 trillion galaxies in the universe. That’s 200,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 – 200 septillion. If only one star in a billion has a planet (and it looks like there are a lot more than that), that’s still 200 trillion stars with at least one planet.

    Maybe my logick is phuzzy, but remember the rule “If it’s not expressly forbidden then it’s mandatory.”

  21. the article addresses ‘habitable’ planets … ‘habitable’ for humans. just because carbon-based life forms adapted to the Earth cannot survive on such world doesn’t mean that other life forms (silicone-based?) could not survive

    a life form that could, hypothetically, evolve into a sentient entity would not necessarily have to do so by Earth eco-guidelines

    IMO, the template that we do have is that areas of the world were uninhabited by humans in past times, although they had abundant vegetation and animal life. I expect that if we do find life on other planets, it will be of those forms.

    I think God gave humans not just the Earth, but the entire universe as ours to explore forever.

    This is a given, except it’s not an experiment. “You will look for me, but you will not find me; and where I am, you cannot come.” -John 7:34.

    One of the fundamental precepts of the Book of Job is that God is not subject to His creation. So the Universe appears to be 4.55 +-0.2 Billion years old to us. But the question you can’t answer… Is it still the 7th Day for Him?

  26. They haven’t found planets that could sustain us, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t inhabited. Life as WE know may be rare in the universe, but that doesn’t mean Life is rare. It may exist in forms we can’t comprehend at all.
