Himes (D): Mueller Testifying Before Congress Could Be a ‘Letdown’

WFB: ‘Nobody should expect that Bob Mueller is going to make any news,’ the congressman said.

WFB:

Rep. Jim Himes (D., Conn.) said Wednesday that Democrats shouldn’t get their hopes up for Robert Mueller’s upcoming congressional testimony.

Reps. Adam Schiff (D., Calif.) and Jerrold Nadler (D., N.Y.) announced Tuesday Mueller would testify in front of a joint session of the House Intelligence and Judiciary Committees on July 17 about the sprawling Russia investigation.

“Nobody should expect that Bob Mueller is going to make any news in either of the testimonies he gives to the Congress,” Himes told CNN’s Kate Bolduan.

Himes affirmed his support for questioning Mueller, who served as special counsel in the probe into Russian interference in the 2016 election. In Himes’s view, Mueller’s impact could come from simply restating what’s in the report because too many Americans remain ignorant of its supposedly incriminating content.

“I would not expect to learn a lot new,” Himes said. “I would be shocked if he goes too far from the language of the report. That said, he may be able to—he may be willing to answer factual questions that maybe aren’t directly in the report.”

Bolduan asked directly if this might backfire on Democrats. Himes answered in the negative but said there is a risk of letting down Democrats who want to strike a blow against President Donald Trump.

  1. His testimony isn’t going to be concentrated on the report if the Democrats get their way (which is what they have already stated). it is going to be about anything and everything outside of the report that he knows anything at all about.

It will be interesting to see how he responds to that line of questioning, and interesting to see where the Republicans decide to go with it once the Democrats have introduced and legitimized that line of questioning (like, maybe, how there might have been information suggesting various Leftists were involved in illicit activities).

  2. A “letdown”? No. The content of Mueller’s “testimony” is irrelevant. The purpose of his appearance is simply to keep the whole collusion/obstruction farrago in the public eye, and to provide yet another excuse for the newsie propagandists to avoid reporting on things that are actually real and/or important.

  3. “Nobody should expect that Bob Mueller is going to make any news…”

Yes Congressman Obvious, especially if he incriminates himself or throws somebody under the bus. That will definitely not make the news.

  4. …the only purpose of this is to keep casting doubt and using a legal venue to throw discredited dirt on a sitting President. They will keep going on about “Muh Obstruction” until the elections, unless they can get a bunch more crazy women together to say Trump raped them…

  5. According to Rep. Himes, Mueller means what he says and says what he means.
Mueller: There is insufficient evidence to show collusion/obstruction, but then again there is insufficient evidence to show there wasn’t.
That should keep never Trumpers chewing the cud for the next six years.
