She’s talking about the teachers’ strike that has paralyzed her city’s public schools—enrollment 360,000—for the past week. The public employee union is demanding more: more money for salaries (only eight states pay teachers more than Illinois), more support staff (Illinois ranks first in spending on administrators), more teachers per student. Their cause has attracted national attention. Elizabeth Warren joined the picket line.
Which is ironic. Lightfoot is not some stingy Republican. Nor is she a centrist Democrat like her predecessor Rahm Emanuel. She’s as progressive as you can get. But she now finds herself in the same position as many of her political brethren: facing criticism for failing to reconcile the contradictions in the left’s agenda.
Lightfoot has discovered that there is no limit to the appetite of the constituencies generated by government spending. She has learned that the special interests bargaining for higher benefits also desire policies that make such benefits unattainable. I hope she’s taking notes. keep reading

Teachers have became idiots along with anyone involved with public schools.
I tried to have a conversation with some at a local school when they were whining about teacher raises, more money for books and smaller classrooms.
Why is it 15 years ago the school was plenty big enough for the kids, but now with fewer students the school had to build a gym big enough to hold the entire population of the city, two more school buildings had to be built that are bigger than any of the original buildings.
Why is it 15 years ago the band could haul all of the band members on a school bus and the instruments could be hauled in another school bus, but now the band and the football team have charter buses and the band has a truck with an 18 foot trailer along with a box truck that all had to be decked out with vinyl graphics?
Why do you need books when teachers refuse to use text books and instead want kids to do everything on computers?
I was told they have no choice the money spent on those things is funded differently and if they don’t spend it they lose it.
Then why don’t you fight for the government to allow you to give that money back if you don’t need to spend it or transfer it to teacher salaries.
Their answer was because then when they do need something new they won’t have the funding for it and the kids need more money.
Yep, that’s why any bond issues they make sure are super secret and held in February or March so nobody is paying attention.

That old chestnut? Cities have been using the “for the children” scheme to raise taxes forever. They will also threaten to close jails, layoff cops or cutoff off aid to seniors and cripples to scare people into paying more.

In the Midwest, I can’t think of another entirely run, liberal machine, than Chicago. I’m certain there are other shit holes around the country like San Feces. I’m just not certain if it’s 100% Democrat run, like Cook County, Illinois.
My doctor, yes, my doctor, the one I go to for medical checkups. He was lamenting to me taxpayers leaving California. I reminded him that “socialism works until you run out of other people’s money, and doctor, it’s happening as we have this conversation.” I should have charged him for mental health counseling and some extra reassurance.

Every city that is ran by Democrats have the same agenda, “seek and destroy” whatever goodness the city had. Chicago made the list again of the worse city for rats. Which is worse, human $hit on sidewalks on every street, or rats? My cat takes care of rats, I don’t go where human $hit paves the streets. We’ve got a petition going here in CA to recall Newsom, at least it’s a step in the right direction. We need another Trump here and FAST! Waiting for my power to go off in Round 4. It has already turned the power off to over 2 million people and he announced 40 more counties can expect the same thing in coming weeks. He also said to expect this to be the new normal for at least the next 10 YEARS as PG&E struggles out of bankruptcy thanks to him making them bankrupt due to his obamma-like devotion to the rabid tree-huggers.
Every single industry will close and move away that depends on a steady supple of electricity, and where the work goes so to will the workers, and their families, and anyone else that does not like being FORCED to live like its the 1700’s all over again with the only solution being to go buy your own generator and pay through the nose for gas… (can you imagine the smog a few million generators running all at once will create?) way to go tree-huggers!!!
They never had these problems until this loser came to power and I would not be surprised or shed a tear if I get to hear how an angry mob of people he ruined lynched him from the top of the governors mansion.

50% of school time should be in actual maintenance and upkeep of the school and in vigorous activity like sports and hiking.

At no time in Man’s history has more money been spent on “education” with nothing to show for it! The more money we throw at schools, the more the standards have to be rolled back. Incompetence costs like sin!!!

Sadly, and I pretty much knew the answer to my question before I asked it, there are no cities of 150k population or above that arent run by democrats.
Therein lies the problem.
The cityfolk zombies are now buying country property. And bringing their voting dysfunction with them. Like our other aliens, they do not wish to assimilate. They wish to dominate.
I’m watching it happen right here in my county.
In my school district, enrollment is down over 30%. But when it comes to cutting certified staff, the union screams like wounded banshees. Administrators give themselves raises, and they spend money on facilities for themselves. So far as I can tell, students are at best an inconvenience and usually an obstacle. Obviously, the district is out of money and according to school officials, we need a tax increase.
But it would be for the children if we had some.
