Just The News: This week, our award goes to the Department of Health and Human Service’s (HHS) Office of Community Services for spending $765,828 to open an IHOP in D.C.’s up-and-coming neighborhood of Columbia Heights in 2011. Government flapjacks, anyone?
In 2009, the Anacostia Economic Development Corporation (AEDC) applied for a grant from HHS to invest in the franchised restaurant in exchange for a minority equity stake. HHS gave the AEDC $500,000 as an equity injection in DC Pancakes LLC for a 19% ownership interest, according to the 2011 edition of newly deceased former Oklahoma Republican Sen. Tom Coburn’s annual Wastebook.
The remaining quarter-of-a-million-plus dollars went to “training costs for new employees, and other consultants.” That would be, pancake consultants. MORE
The Golden Horseshoe is a weekly designation from Just the News intended to highlight egregious examples of wasteful taxpayer spending by the government. The award is named for the horseshoe-shaped toilet seats for military airplanes that cost the Pentagon a whopping $640 each back in the 1980s.
So now you don’t just have to go to a Waffle House to see a brawl.
Waste and fraud= simple by-products of commie liberalism and egregious politicians whose sole purpose is self aggrandizement.
Mmmmmm…pancakes!
We will open a pancake place in an area where people can’t afford to buy breakfast out,
There is a great business model!!!
Eat pancakes!
Some of the worst service I ever got was in a Tampa IHOP.
For less than a million, this seems like an awfully big flap, Jack.
Pork goes with pancakes like chicken goes with waffles.
Don’t go to the site if your wife is around. Sex on the Internet -> http://surl.li/bdoi
No thanks Dalton, seen enough in my life. And yes my wife of 42 years is right next to me cleaning the kitchen. Don’t want to go there.
