I got this form eLetter from a local hospital conglomerate April 1st. I read it and thought it was April Fool’s. It wasn’t. This is part of it-

Effective April 5, 2021
Beginning April 5, 2021, parents will no longer have access to Protected Health Information (PHI) belonging to children 13 and older, in accordance with Washington state privacy laws. The result is that upon turning 13, your child will have sole access to test results and to chart notes produced in the practice or during a hospital stay. Your current access to your child’s patients portal will be disabled on April 5; your 13-year-old may reestablish their portal account using their own email address.

Two days later I got a follow up email that started this way:
Dear Friends and Neighbors,
This week, we shared a brief message with our patient community regarding a change in parental access to the health record of patients 13 years and older. We apologize for not providing you a more robust and thoughtful communication. ..

It was a longer email explaining again the new law plus a link to a FAQ page and an email to someone within the hospital conglomerate to answer further questions.
Obviously, some parents were as shocked as I was and the hospital must have been flooded with calls. Further on in the email it explained that parents can petition to gain access to their kids records but there are MANY many hoops to jump through to get that approval.
At 13, you are not an adult and your parents are still responsible for your well being. How is this okay?
I don’t have kids but my gut reaction was that it’s wrong and there’s something sinister afoot.

Michigan and Illinois enacted this years back. It has to do with the ‘woke’ culture and protecting these children’s ‘reproductive rights’. Didn’t agree with it then, and don’t agree with it now. I had frank discussions with my children before they could be indoctrinated by this garbage.
So a parent is not allowed to see his or her child’s medical record but a ticket taker at a ball game can require him or her to show a vaccine record to enter a ballgame or concert?

As a patient, anyone can designate a family member or friend to have access to medical records in the event the patient is unable to.
A smarter thing to do than deny access, and a way around their stupid rule.

Today is Easter Sunday and God always wins no matter what the damned state government says. My faith is in God and not man, I don’t trust the state any farther than I can throw them. Keep the faith, God is on our side and there are always far more Angels watching over us and protecting us from harm than demons trying to destroy us.
If they think 13 year olds are adult enough for this, then they are also old enough to be financially responsible for the treatment the hospital gives the.
