There’s a story about an old Marxist who would address leftist rallies in Union Square a century ago as, “Workers and Peasants of New York City”. Leftists eventually transform farce into fact and that’s why New York’s number two mayoral candidate is touting a “New Agrarian Economy”.

It’s time to farm one of the most expensive and densely populated cities in the country.

Mao had kicked off China’s worst famine by demanding that wheat be grown everywhere. And New York City’s Maoists are following in his footsteps by trying to farm rooftops and parking lots.

Urban agriculture is one of those obscure lefty ideas so insane that few even believe it exists.

But Mayor Bill de Blasio had already created an Office of Urban Agriculture and the New York City Council, which is so crazy that it makes De Blasio look sane, had declared war on “food inequity”, by vowing to grow food in one of the most densely populated cities on earth.

    Assuming that the rooftops can support the weight of a decent amount of soil without collapsing…..and then there’s the hauling of load after load of soil up elevators and stairs (assuming everyone doesn’t quit)………HEY! GREAT place to bury the bodies AND fertilize the soil. A two-fer!

  7. I met an attorney who specialized in big dollar bankruptcy cases. We had an interesting conversation regarding doctors, lawyers and Indian chiefs being attracted to tawdry blonds who convince them to go into breeding thoroughbred horses. The latest iteration of this idiocy is owning and operating a vineyard or organic farm/ranch.

    All of these endeavors are very specialized and require a lot of knowledge. How in the hell anyone could get the notion that a complete and total dumb ass that is too stupid to keep a hamster or philodendron alive for six months is ever going to have success in that arena is beyond me.

  8. The kind of food New Yorker’s like to eat can’t be grown there. Beef, pork, chicken, wheat for pizza, pasta and bagels, potatoes for French Fries, etc. Maybe tomatoes and peppers could be grown for sauce. Greens? Possible and not hard hydroponically, but I don’t think New Yorker’s like much salad.
