Jason sent me something he wrote on his FB page to family and friends regarding Jeremiah 24. The LORD showed Jeremiah two baskets of figs, one with good figs to be sent into exile in Babylon, the other basket of bad figs that were to remain behind.
What he wrote spoke to something I’ve been going through this summer; fighting my anger and despair about what is happening, to keep my natural optimism. It helped me as I pray it will help any of you with the same issue.
For most of my life I’ve been a political conservative; voting straight-ticket Republican in every election. When the pandemic hit 18 months ago, I saw it for what it became; a political football that politicians could manipulate for their purposes. It couldn’t be clearer today, and I’ve been very outspoken concerning government overreach.
Lately, I’ve been reading the book of Jeremiah as part of my Bible-in-a-year study. Chapter 24 is the representation of the good and bad figs. At first, I didn’t like it. How could the people that were sent to exile be good, and the ones remaining free be bad? Well, the ones in exile humbled themselves to the will of God (even if they didn’t intend to) and those that remained “free” were proud and self-assured.
This is when God made it clear to me; I’ve been so preoccupied with being angry about the government, making some people my enemy, that I’ve missed the point. That is; our nation has turned from God. We are reaping the effects of this. Instead of being proud and defiant even further, we should humble ourselves, repent and follow Him. I’m NOT saying we can’t fight for our rights. But our rights as Americans do not trump our responsibilities as Christians to love one another, study His word and make disciples.

I over heard a couple prog see you next Tuesday’s saying that if popular opinion wins out and almost everyone accepts that the gay lifestyle is not sinful then God would be compelled to as well. That or God would have to condemn and punish almost everyone and that is not consistent with what Christianity is all about.

The late great Joseph Sobran wrote many articles about how Jesus was not the benign teacher of feel goodism that the popular culture makes him out to have been.
Actually, Sodom and Gomorrah wasn’t about homosexuality. It was about sex with angels (and rape and murder). Read gen 6 1-4. What compelled me to post the above link was because that John hamer lecturer does go into great detail about how the OT treats the subject of the innocent suffering but the wicked don’t and how it progresses up through Christ’s time. And of course child sacrifice being the big sin. Not homosexuality which really doesn’t get mentioned in the OT

That is just one problem….and that one alone makes them “not” Christian.
The religion classes I took in college in the late 70s defined Non-Christian religions as those who distort fundamental Christian doctrines such as the Trinity, the deity of Christ, and salvation by grace through faith alone. Specifically, any religion that denies that Jesus Christ is God’s son is not Christian.

I have a mormon branch of family and was forced to go for awhile. They are NOT Christians. They think they are, but they are not.
And Jpm, I am sorry but you are deceived. Moses wrote Genesis and Sodom and Gomorrah was about homosexuality.
There was no homosexual act with the story of Sodom and Gommorah. Lot’s daughter got raped and murdered. The angels did not suffer from any such act.
Only Liviticus mentions that a man should not lie with another man, but it was in the context of temple worship that was common with the god Ashurah. That passage was right next to the passage about not going to the bathroom within 400 steps of the camp. That’s the only other mention of it. I love the Bible experts here who have never read it but pretend to be expert.

I know that what follows is strictly anecdotal, but here goes. I received and accepted the gospel of Jesus Christ when I was 20 years old. Before that, I had been a practicing Mormon. The only times that I ever heard the name of Jesus mentioned was in the title of the church or at the end of a prayer or testimony. They ALWAYS end a testimony with “I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ, amen”.
I was still pretty naive at the time, and was pretty excited about sharing my newfound salvation with my fellow Mormons. The overwhelming majority of them didn’t want to hear it. I got a call from my bishop asking me if I had been promoting Christ above the (Mormon) church. I replied that yes, I had discovered that Christ was supreme, even above any church in existence, Mormons included. I was informed that unless I chose to cease this activity, that the bishop would have no choice but to begin the excommunication process against me. I told him to do what he thought best, but that I was not going to deny my Lord and Savior. I was eventually excommunicated from that church, which by the time it happened was exactly what I wanted.
My point being – I have seen and lived both Mormonism and Christianity. Nobody will ever be able to convince me that there is any common ground between the two.

I had in-laws that were Mormon and they are not Christian, I learned everything I could learn about the religion and it is a cult.
To the person claiming homosexuality is not in the Bible is lying and to say Sodom and Gomorrah had nothing to do with homosexuality is also lying. They wanted to have sex with men and even turned down sex with Lot’s daughters.

Haman is a fairly well known progressive apologist that tries to spin the progressive view of the world vs biblical. He spins translations to show it is pederasts not homosexuality but even that is bad translations. Then even brings in since Christ obviously knew about gay men but did not specifically call it out then he is ok with gay marriage since that is “pure” love not lust. False preachings and anything to make them feel better about sin.

From Lev. 18. This is the giving of laws to Israel. Maybe if YOU would read a little further, you would get the context.
‘Do not defile yourselves by any of these things; for by all these things the nations which I am driving out from you have become defiled.
25 ‘For the land has become defiled, therefore I have brought its punishment upon it, so the land has vomited out its inhabitants.
26 ‘But as for you, you are to keep My statutes and My judgments, and you shall not do any of these abominations, neither the native, nor the stranger who resides among you
27 (for the people of the land who were there before you did all these abominations, and the land has become defiled),
28 so that the land will not vomit you out should you defile it, as it has vomited out the nation which was there before you.
God is telling the Israelites that the land “vomited” out it’s previous inhabitants because they did these things. So this not only shows God’s contempt on the sin, but also the contempt of the sin in other nations, not just His people, Israel. Go back to the beginning of the chapter. Read the whole thing and stop twisting it.
Then there is a reference in Lev. 20:13. Same application. God is setting rules again for Israel.
On to your twisting of Sodom and Gomorrah……Progressive Christians trying to normalize homosexuality have been trying to make the sin here as only inhospitality, or of unnatural relations with angels. However the text nowhere points out that anyone in the city knew they were angels—instead they are called “men” by both the citizens and Lot (Gen. 19:5, and Gen. 19:8). That the sin of Sodom and Gomorrah included not only inhospitality but also the homosexual activity is the best interpretation. Jude 1:7 corroborates this:
Jude 1:7 So also Sodom and Gomorrah and the neighboring towns, since they indulged in sexual immorality and pursued unnatural desire in a way similar to these angels, are now displayed as an example by suffering the punishment of eternal fire.
Heck, these twisted men tried to get it on with the angels even after they were blinded……..

If you twist the meaning of scripture and interpret “abomination” as “homosexual” then absolutely, the Bible is against it. Unfortunately, the
Bible always ends their story with “and he was a good King and he kept Gods precepts” or the King was a bad king and “emulated their children to Molec” It was always about child sacrifice. In the Sodom and Gomorrah story they clearly knew that it was Angels they wanted. They weren’t going about raping men, but is you want to twist it to mean homosexual you can.
