Republicans make gains in New York city council races

Post Millennial-

Republicans made inroads in the Democrat controlled City Council of New York. In Brooklyn, Queens, and Staten Island, Republicans were able to snag seats, and a fifth may turn red in the Bay Ridge neighborhood of Brooklyn, though the numbers between Justin Brannan and Brian Fox are still too close to call.

Brooklyn’s 48th Council District saw a win for Ukraine-born Inna Vernikov over Steve Saperstein by a margin of almost 30 points. The area comprising much of New York’s Coney Island is home to a large Russian and Jewish population.

In Queens’ 19th Council District, Vickie Paladino took the seat for Republicans over Democrat City Councilman Tony Avella.

Vernikov told the New York Post that she was “very excited” about the win, going on to say that “This election victory shows that the people are fed up with the progressive policies that have destroyed our city and district.” more

  1. It’s not just that Republicans are winning seats, they are winning in deep blue areas. And some are winning by large margins. Seattle City Attorney was won for the first time in ages by a Republican, with 58% of the vote.
I remain confident that Dems will steal a lot of elections. I think the country is far, far more conservative than our electorate reflects, from national down to school boards. That needs to change – we simply need our electorate to reflect the citizens. Also – get the hell out of CA.
