Russia’s Black Sea Fleet Flagship, The Moskva, Damaged and Out of Action

Daily News

Ukraine said Thursday its forces sank the flagship of Russia’s Black Sea fleet in a missile attack, but Moscow said the vessel was merely damaged, making no mention of an assault.

The loss of the ship would be a major military and symbolic defeat for Russia as its troops regroup for a renewed offensive in eastern Ukraine after retreating from much of the north, including the capital.

Russia said a fire aboard the Moskva, a warship that would typically have 500 sailors on board, forced the entire crew to evacuate the vessel. It later said the fire had been contained and that the ship would be towed to port with its guided missile launchers intact. More

  1. Seriously, I don’t believe one iota of “information” coming out of Ukraine. The entire thing is an insane and clumsy attempt to build popularity for WWIII, because the usual pack of assholes in DC are polling in the gutter.

  3. From MSN:

“As a result of a fire, ammunition has detonated on the Moskva missile cruiser.”

“Russia’s Defense Ministry said the main missile weapons on board were not damaged, but made no mention of missile strikes in its statement.”

    From ABSNews:

“Russian defense officials said the ship lost its stability when it was towed to a port of destination “due to damage to the hull received during the fire from the detonation of ammunition.” The ship sank in stormy seas, they said.”

Uh huh. And now those missiles are on the bottom.

  4. Who knows what the truth is? What I know is that it ain’t my circus and those aren’t my monkeys.

This much I can state as a stone cold natural fact: I have no interest whatsoever in protecting the Pelosis, Kerrys, Romneys and Bidens one stop money laundering shop.

  5. My cousin was a Navy F-18 pilot, later did some years of administrative work with the Navy. He wrote once (decades ago) that he was at a reception with many high-level naval officers from both US and Russia. Russian admirals were stuffing food into their pockets. Admirals! They are not well cared-for.

  6. Bravo! Largest warship and the command ship for Russian Federation’s Black Sea Fleet. Third largest surface warship in their navy. The Ukrainians are exposing the entire Russian military to be third rate. Putin has been embarrassed and humiliated by a better trained and motivated Ukrainian military at almost every turn. He will exact a fearful revenge on every civilian target within range of his artillery and missiles.

“If you think the Rusky military sucks, just wait until you see the Chinese in action.”

…my understanding is that, with unlimited cannon fodder, the Chinese win by attrition.

A story from the Sino-Japanese war once said a Chinese butler in the old Raj would bring his English principle his breakfast every morning, with a paper reporting on the war. First day, 100 Japanese killed and 1000 Chinese. Butler delivers this with a grin. Next day, 1000 Japanese killed and 8000 Chinese. Butler is smiling now. Next day, the paper says 1500 Japanese killed and 10,000 Chinese. Butler has a huge smile now. The British man asks why the butler seems so happy at the lopsided totals and, with happiness in his voice, the Chinese butler replies, “Plitty soon, no more Japanese!”.

It was also said that at the beginning of thr Korean war, American machine gun nests were overrun by so many charging Chinese that they ran out of bullets or the guns got too hot to fire.

It makes a difference if they need to cross an ocean, of course, but in terms of Land War in Asia, I’m just not sure there’s enough bullets in the world to stem that tide, not if they were all naked and unarmed.

Like a zombie movie, eventually they would simply engulf you with raw numbers.

  8. They could never achieve the ability to UNREP , or so I was told . The Russian squids would steal your smokes and drinks off the bar when you weren’t looking , happened to me in Pusan and Pattaya . The one time I saw one of their ships up close in Pearl , it was crusted rust with layered on gray paint . The japanese had the cleanest best looking ships I have ever seen , they had a scrub brush and soapy water at the base of the brow (gangway) where they scrubbed off their shoes before coming aboard , and walked topside in socked feet (at least while inport) . The British , Australians had beer rations daily unless commitments precluded indulging , heard the Canadians had beer too , but I don’t know first hand . Got hammered while inport Darwin Australia during Anzac Day aboard an Aussie ship , followed by an attempt at marching in town , failed miserably , got more hammered and hit in the head by an aborigine hurling pool balls at a bar . Anyway , yeah the Russian ship sunk , too bad , don’t need to lose a missile thrower with mobility .

  9. Its not the Russian surface ships you should worry about, its the submarines
Theyre good at subs. Also missiles and artillery. Russians have been good at that since the 19th century
