  1. I don’t care at all about soccer but I’m glad we beat Iran! Too bad for the Iranian soccer team that they have to go back and face the Ayatollah after having failed Allah.

  2. You could have knocked me over with a feather…
just like every fucking fake-assed injured soccer player.
    Pathetic “sport”

“How much time is left in the game?”
“Well, that depends on stoppage time, which is kept on the referees watch”

    WUT???!!!

  3. Most us, ahhh, more mature guys, don’t like soccer much. When I was in High School soccer is what you did when all the real sports were over. The Mexicans loved it.
My kids all played youth soccer. That never changed my opinion of the game.

Our World Cup Team is suppose to be the epitome of WOKE.

As opposed to Hurling, where some damnable fool decided it was a good idea to give a bunch of Irish a three foot long ash club than looks not unlike an axe handle then turn then loose on each other.

  5. Our guy* scored in the 38th minute of a 90 minute game and the announcers were talking like it was a done deal.
Thing was, it was a done deal because the game sucks that bad.
With 52 minutes left that shouldn’t have been the consensus.

*The USA player barely ran into the Iranian goalie and our guy actually went to the hospital afterward with an “abdominal injury.”
    SMDH!

Maybe “abominable” is more apt here. Not like actual fair rules are in play.

  7. Unlike Soccer, Hurling is a real game. The drinking in the stands of an Irish hurling match is absolutely epic, almost Homeric. All the pubs for miles in any direction are jammed with thirsty patrons before and after every game. All the players are unpaid professionals, and they never use their wooden hurley sticks to bash another player. They only started wearing helmets in 2010. I’ve never had so much fun in a lashing downpour as the time I spent with Mick, Jamie, Shabo, and Paddy at Croke Park in Dublin watching a championship game. When the favorite team lost there were grown men crying their eyes out until they could brace themselves with a jar of Guinness.

  8. Most have rigid opinions of soccer.
I played it well. I also played football well.

But to play football you are at a distinct advantage if your genes won’t let you exceed 6′ of height and 230lb of weight. Yes, there are smaller football players but if they play against 280+lb athletes that can run a 4.4 40yd dash and bench 300 lbs, the small player can get hurt FOR LIFE. That’s a deal breaker for anyone with an IQ over 100.

That said, whether you like the game or not, the US team winning against opponents of differing… cultures, in a compromised arena (FIFA and ALL sports leagues obey MONEY, that’s right MONEY and political power)…. despite all that, the athletes deserve respect and admiration. Full stop.

You should know that MOST games the USA team plays in S America they are pelted by ziplok bags of URINE (particularly in fucking Meheeco). There are explanations for all that shit, but none reflect the athletes.

So good on them. They played a good game in a rough arena.
And great to have a good coach for the US team finally.

  9. JDHasty,

I had to look up “Hurling”.
Looks like Lacross where Cross Checking with the stick is legal.
Hurling Looks like a tough game to me. (never saw it)

Otherwise, I thought you meant BARFING in the Stands which brings me right back to Soccer Hooligans.

    Cheers.

  10. Not a fan of soccer, but very glad the USA beat Iran. Even though the Iranian athletes may be fighting for freedom, their Islamic totalitarian government deserves humiliation at every opportunity.
It would be wonderful if The United States goes all the way, winning the tournament. The world already sees, thanks to the win against “Ee-ron” American patriotism is alive and well despite communist infiltration.

My family hails from Upper Church (close to Tipperary, Thurles and Cashel), not far from Kilkenny and hurling is more than taken serious in those parts. Someone in Dublin evidently forgot to let them know the hurl is not to be used in that manner. That would be like a lad expecting their old daddy to restrict the use of his Shillelagh to walking stick duty.

  12. I saw the game, and understand it

Wow dude, you’re describing and either or choice here which is bull shit. And Soccer’s not that hard to understand. Personally I hated team sports so I wrestled in school and Boxed in a league.
Try racket sports. No one will piss on you. Also, I’m willing to wager we contribute MUCH more dollars than our fair share to World Cup.
