Robbie Bachman, Drummer for BTO Has Departed

Billboard

Robin “Robbie” Bachman, the co-founder and drummer of 1970s rockers Bachman-Turner Overdrive, has died at 69. The news was announced by Bachman’s older brother, former Guess Who singer and BTO vocalist Randy Bachman in a statement on Thursday (Jan. 12), in which he wrote, “Another sad departure. The pounding beat behind BTO, my little brother Robbie has joined Mum, Dad & brother Gary on the other side. Maybe Jeff Beck needs a drummer! He was an integral cog in our rock ‘n’ roll machine and we rocked the world together. #RIP #littlebrother #family.” MORE

  1. Oops, Who’s Going To Fill Their Shoes

You know this old world is full of singers
But just a few are chosen
To tear your heart out when they sing
    Imagine life without them
    All your radio heroes
Like the outlaw that walks through Jesse’s dream

No, there will never be another
    Red-Headed Stranger
A Man in Black and Folsom Prison Blues
    The Okie from Muskogee
    Or Hello Darling
Lord, I wonder, who’s gonna fill their shoes?

    Who’s gonna fill their shoes?
    Who’s gonna stand that tall?
    Who’s gonna play the Opry
    And the Wabash Cannonball?
Who’s gonna give their heart and soul
To get to me and you?
Lord I wonder, who’s gonna fill their shoes?

God bless the boys from Memphis
    Blue Suede Shoes and Elvis
Much too soon he left this world in tears
    They tore up the Fifties
    Old Jerry Lee and Charlie
And Go Cat Go still echoes through the years

You know the heart of country music
Still beats in Luke the Drifter
You can tell when he sang “I Saw the Light”
    Old Marty, Hank and Lefty
Why I can feel ’em right here with me
On this Silver Eagle rolling through the night

    Who’s gonna fill their shoes?
    Who’s gonna stand that tall?
    Who’s gonna play the Opry
    And the Wabash Cannonball?
Who’s gonna give their heart and soul
To get to me and you?
Lord I wonder, who’s gonna fill their shoes?

Yes I wonder, who’s gonna fill their shoes?

  2. Lotsa musicians are passing away. I know not every one is jab related but holy smokes…

They mandated them to attend their concerts and this is the outcome of that?!?

  3. My favorite BTO song;

    youtube.com/watch?v=4cia_v4vxfE

Canada had some great rockers; Bryan Adams, Guess Who, BTO, Alanis Morrisette.

The Seventies was the apex of musical greatness and as these great musicians pass, although saddened I am thankful for the music of my youth.

Youtube will always keep them relevant.

  4. RIP.

When I first emigrated to Canada from the UK (many moons ago) I worked as a restaurant cashier at Jasper Park Lodge in the Canadian Rockies. One lunchtime shortly after I arrived an excited young waitress ran up to me and said “guess who are here?” I said “who?” she said “guess who” this went on a couple more times (sort of like a “Who’s on First” skit for rock bands). She finally told me that Guess Who were a hugely famous Canadian rock band (I’d never heard of them) as they proceeded past us on the way to their table.

After I left Jasper and moved to Vancouver, I worked with a girl whose uncle was Blair Thornton of BTO.

Currently Tai Bachman, Randy’s son, is regular guest columnist for Mark Steyn’s Steyn Online. He is a conservative and an extremely good writer, check him out sometime.

So, that’s all my Guess Who/BTO stories. Was never a fan of their music. To each their own. RIP.

  5. Was it sudden?
I tuned into the local news tonight to see if the rumors were true that a little girl missing and apparently murdered body was found. There was a cardiologist on saying that heart attacks and heart disease was up 30%. I’m thinking finally they’re going to talk about it. Nope, he said it was because of herbal supplements, mainly fish oil, but also herbal supplements for weight loss that was causing it.
I know people who have taken fish oil pills for years, one who his cardiologist recommended them, but now it’s why young people are dying suddenly.

  6. The absolute LOUDEST concert I ever attended at Mobile Municipal Auditorium capacity over 22K in Mobile, Ala during the early 70’s. The entire building and even the parking lot vibrated for over 4 hours of nonstop goodness. We had to yell into each other’s ears when we left at the end. Good times!! RIP ROBBIE, the All-Star lineup is getting quite a few members in heaven, GOD is tapping his feet to the music.
