GOP House Members Introduce Bill to Repeal National Firearms Act

Breitbart – A group of Republican House members led by Rep. Eric Burlison (R-MO) put forth legislation Wednesday to repeal the National Firearms Act (1934), thereby stripping the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) of the ability to turn law-abiding gun owners into criminals.

The legislation is called the Repeal the NFA Act.

Burlison tweeted: “The Repeal the NFA Act will strip the ATF of its authority to criminalize lawful gun owners and undo nearly 90 years of assault on our fundamental freedoms. I’m proud to stand with Americans nationwide as we take this issue head-on.”

Burlison told the Daily Caller, “The federal government has used the National Firearms Act for almost a century to violate law-abiding citizens’ Second Amendment rights. The recent ATF pistol brace rule is just another example of these blatant attacks on the constitutional rights of Americans. The ATF-NFA sham needs to end.”

Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ), a co-sponsor of Burlison’s bill, noted, “I applaud Rep. Burlison’s legislation that would prevent the federal government from imposing draconian registration mandates on law-abiding gun owners. Anti-gun zealots have enacted policies that create increased government bureaucracy and do nothing to reduce gun violence.”

  1. In an effort to promote the notion that the new GOP leadership is going to hit the ground running, they have come up with a laundry list of stuff they would like to do and I’m all for most of it (like this proposal) but it appears to me that they are all over the map swatting at flies in a frenetic and not very coordinated manner.

TBH, I’m beyond promises and want to see something substantive accomplished.

The GOP did not win a sweeping mandate and bulletproof majorities, their hold is tenuous at best. Huddle up in a room and figure out what is doable, then do those things.

  2. Remember all those votes about repealing Obama Care when the GOP was in the minority?

Remember when they repealed it as soon as they had both Houses and the Executive?

    Yeah, me neither.

  3. @Lowell – actually they came pretty close to at least a major destruction of 0bamacare. It lost in the Senate by one vote – from McCain. They did pass something to weaken it, but it could have been much more.
In general, I don’t expect this Congress to be able to pass anything of substance – so I would rather they focus their time on investigations and impeachments. It may only be show, but a lot of truth can be brought into public light.

  4. It may be an empty gesture (Senate vs HoR), but at least it’s being spoken aloud in Mordor-on-the-Potomac.

  5. A fictional book related to this subject is “Unintended Consequences”. I can’t think of the author right now but it’s interesting in the sense that the good guys win one.

Yeah, would any of this conservative candy be happening if the senate was rep majority. Even if it was, how many in that senate would actually be conservative and get it done?

Damn. When did I become an Eeyore?

  7. A $200 tax stamp on a $150 dollar Thompson would give pause…. Fast forward 70+ years and that same Thompson is bringing $30,000 -$100,000! I do not suppose that hardcore NFA collectors will back this bill, but I do like to see it talked about.

Should Leonidas and the Spartans at Thermopylae have just cut and run, or not show up, because they were facing sure defeat?
