Nationwide Salmonella Outbreak Linked to Eggs

nbc news

Health officials are investigating a salmonella outbreak linked to eggs that has sickened 95 people across the United States, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Thursday.

California-based Country Eggs LLC issued a recall of its large brown cage-free sunshine yolk eggs on Wednesday. The eggs were also sold under the brand names Nagatoshi Produce, Misuho and Nijiya Markets, according to the Food and Drug Administration. They were also packed for food service as large brown “sunshine yolks” or “omega-3 golden yolks.” More

  1. I just had a six-egg western omelet at the diner and I never felt better. I reckon they’ll have to destroy the rest of the chickens now; they’ll recommend Twizzlers to replace eggs in our diets.

  2. My juveniles from this spring have graduated. They are now laying hens even though we giggle at the size of their eggs. Hubby does 5 eggs a day, I do 1-3 depending on my mood. They forage for bugs in the grass and the woods and convert those bugs to gorgeous orange yolks that serve as brain food. God has a sense of humor. These goofy cacklers will eat insects and poop out their butt gifts that can keep you sharp until you’re 100 years old.

  3. The best I can determine is around the world, no one washes eggs except the U.S. That is why eggs from other countries can sit out without being refrigerated and eggs from the U.S MUST be refrigerated. There is a God given protective covering on eggs that are not washed and this is stripped away when the eggs are washed. So my guess is that the wash water used in the U.S. gets contaminated and spreads salmonella to every egg washed while stripping away the natural protection. I personally buy my eggs from my local farmers and I leave my eggs sitting out for at most 2 sometimes 3 weeks before putting them the fridge. Have been doing this for 70+ years and never caught any disease from unwashed eggs. By the Way, the color of the eggs is derived from the color of the feathers. White feathers produce white eggs and all others produce brown eggs of varying brown

  4. For what it’s worth, I eat 2 cackle berries every day and I don’t have some doctor shoving cholesterol medicine down my throat. Not so bad when you are midway past 90 going to 100 years old

  5. Hoo Hoo Nay Nay – earthworms. My chickens used to go absolutely crazy over a freshly tilled garden with the worms wiggling at the surface. And then already fantastic eggs would turn into gourmet delicacies.

I’m in a new location now and I’m going to have to build a chicken coop. Thanks for the inspiration!

  6. We have some hens (current batch still young, should start laying soon). We’ve always heard that it’s fine to leave eggs at room temp if they haven’t been washed. Reason being there’s a membrane on the outside of the shell. Washing removes the membrane and then they need to be refrigerated.

  7. Le’s see….. 95 illnesses across a Nation of 350M or so… My calculator replies with 2.714285714285714e-7 ! HECK! I don’t even know what that means. I am surprised that 100,000 Americans don’t get ill eating “fast food” every day! WTFiretruck!
