Every planet in the solar system apart from the one that’s under your feet will be visible in the night sky at the same tonight, closing the year with what the Virtual Telescope Project calls a “grand tour of the solar system.” The project is hosting a livestream of the cosmic show. The five planets visible to the naked eye—Venus, Mercury, Saturn, Jupiter, and Mars—will be lined up in that order starting in the southwest horizon, Space.com reports. People using a telescope or binoculars will be able to spot Uranus between Jupiter and Mars. Neptune will be visible between Saturn and Jupiter.
The clearest view will be around 30 minutes after sunset, with Venus disappearing from view around 40 minutes later, the Guardian reports. The planets will appear closest together on Thursday night, but they will be visible in night skies until the end of the year. “These nights, we can see all the planets of our solar system at a glance, soon after sunset. It happens from time to time, but it is always a spectacular sight,” says Virtual Telescope Project astronomer Gianluca Masi, per Newsweek.

I can’t keep up, is it the other 8 planets, or is Pluto still in the dog house?
I discovered Venus, Mercury, Saturn, Jupiter, and Mars.
Equal gravity for all planets. Mars can barely hold on to an atmosphere.
Just look on Earth: the planets Michelle Obama, Rosey O’Deonnell and Stacey Abrams will be in alignment. (There’ll be an odor, but at least you won’t need a telescope.)

Of all the planets, the third from the sun has the biggest self-induced problems.
Newser’s Quinn says all the planets will be visible in the night sky except the one under my feet. Does that mean that if I look down, the Earth will be invisible? I mean, when I look at the ground I can see it whether it’s lit by the day sky or the (dimmer) night sky. But it sure is pretty visible, isn’t it Mr. “Astronomy Writer” Quinn?

I heard someone asking about it awhile back.
Didn’t pay a lot of attention becuase I know Cameras.
The excuses made sense.
But now with all these different video live feeds
I am starting to wonder.
Why do you not see Stars on Camera Feeds from Outer Space?
I really want to know now.

Maybe it’s because I’m rereading The Princess of Mars, The Gods of Mars and The Warlord of Mars by Edgar Rice Burroughs that I fully expect the Barsoomians/Martians to attack the Earth with John Carter and all the Martian hordes to destroy Wash. DC and make John Carter President of the Earth. John Carter is a native Virginian after all. Hey, one can daydream.
