The Swedish Academy, the organization that awards Nobel Prizes, has decided to give the prize in literature a skip this year. They’ve announced that due to chaos on the selection board, almost a third of whom have resigned, this year’s award will be delayed until next year.

The selection board resignations were driven by a sex scandal surrounding the husband of one of the board members. Former Photographer and “artistic director” Jean-Claude Arnault, who is married to board member Katrina Fronstein, was accused of “sexual assault” by 18 women last November. Some of the assaults reportedly happened on academy property. The committee chairman resigned over controversy on how the allegations were handled and another three members left the committee when Fronstein refused to resign herself.   1. Literature is alive and well in the 21st century, but stupid people such as these acting like they’re the gatekeepers of all that is important and ditching it because of their sex scandals are the problem.
