Art Appreciation – IOTW Report

Art Appreciation

The Smithsonian is going to post a sign today outside a display of African-American art from one collector. It will tell visitors to focus on the art not the art collector.

ZB-COSBY

That’s because all the pieces on display come from the holdings of Bill Cosby.

Maybe the Smithsonian should just take his name off completely.

More

So, will more people come to the art show because it’s Cosby’s?

  1. His love of jazz musicians was always praised as well. Now I like jazz, but the Cosby stuff was awful. It’s as if because he had a hit TV show, we were supposed to look on him as some solon on the mount.

  2. Then the Smithsonian and every museum and gallery in the world should post signs stating ™it’s about the art, not about so and so” this really gets my goat

Not interested in commenting on the Cosby allegations nor offering any defense, but it is terrifying what Americans are doing to one another and the moral, legal, and social cesspool we find ourselves.

At dinner on Monday with a bunch of leftists colleagues on said “bet Cosby wish he’d never wandered of the progressive plantation.” That is what this about.

And, this came from a man who is enamored by the works of Lucien Freud, a pedophile who painted his very young daughters and granddaughters in the nude and photographer Sally Mann whose nudes of children (mostly hers) I nothing short of porngraphy.

Finally in response to a comment not long ago by the first wookie–cosby is a huge collector of modern art and has managed to collect and therefore preserve the works of many artists whose works would otherwise be lost.

    Rant over

  3. From what I’ve seen of the collection it strikes me as trying too hard to be a cross between Picasso and folk art.

Maybe there’s better stuff than what I’ve seen in the pictures of the collection, but what I’ve seen doesn’t appeal to me.

  4. If someone with no talent, aptitude, or experience can duplicate a painting the very first try, the original piece ain’t art. The Smithsonian is fulla this kinda shit. Don’t waste your time of money. It will only make you realize America has lost the war on drugs.
