At least 119 dead in Mexico after magnitude 7.1 earthquake

WT: MEXICO CITY — A magnitude 7.1 earthquake stunned central Mexico on Tuesday, killing at least 119 people as buildings collapsed in plumes of dust. Thousands fled into the streets in panic, and many stayed to help rescue trapped victims.

Dozens of buildings tumbled into mounds of rubble or were severely damaged in densely populated parts of Mexico City and nearby states. Mayor Miguel Angel Mancera said buildings fell at 44 places in the capital alone as high-rises across the city swayed sickeningly.

The quake is the deadliest in Mexico since a 1985 quake on the same date killed thousands. It came less than two weeks after another powerful quake caused 90 deaths in the country’s south.  read more

  1. Remember when the media was beating PDT up for declining aid from Mexico after Hurricane Harvey? I bet Mexico is now glad he did that. Not that we’ll ever hear that from them or the media.

  2. 2 guys I work with lost their homes in Mexico. One guys children are missing. They can’t get flights and cell phones are down. I feel bad for them. They’re not illegal, they just wrk for us seasonally

  3. It’s a golden opportunity for all the Mexican illegal alien construction workers in the USA to head back and show their support by rebuilding Mexico!

I only wish the article had mentioned how many taco trucks were hit…because I *care* (candles, thoughts).

  4. Don’t worry, Mexico, I’m sure the Clinton Foundation is on its way to scoop up donations for the rebuilding of your country. After all, they did such a great job in Haiti. You’ve got nothing to worry about.

  5. Hey, Mexico America has +40 million well rested, fed, medicated and trained people ready to help the rebuilding effort. Just open the border and get ready for the blessings that diversity and minorities can bring to the country (just open the taxpayer wallet and they will come)!

  6. My employer has a employee in that city, we sent him some financial assistance, the rest of the country is a minor incidental concern. If I remember correctly Mexico City used to be a swampy island and liquefaction is a major issue.
