The Brits have been celebrating the 400 year anniversary of the passing of William Shakespeare this week with a number of events marking the occasion.
This being Sunday, perhaps a quiz would be in order to see if you can tell the source of a number of famous phrases that have passed into common usage.
Both the plays of Shakespeare and the King James Bible were published around the same time and there are a number of passages that people confuse as the actual source.
I managed a 66% score. That sets a low bar for everyone else beat.
80%. Rats, a couple of them caught me off guard.
Aww, maaan…couldn’t we have something easier? Like maybe “Bard or Barky”.
66% … Lord give me wisdom and remembrance of the words I have read.
26/30 which is 86% for a solid B, woo hoo. Darned questions from the Book of Job threw me off and I love the Book of Job, it’s one of my favorite books in the Bible. What do I win? And no goats or scorpions please, thank you!
I got a solid 60%. I know Shakespeare better than the Bible.
Since I only know the Tanakh, there’s no so-called new testament in my readings.
70% doped to the gills on antihistamines.
Would do better normally.
73% apparently I know The Bible better than The Bard.
58% Woe onto me. I never read the Bible
86%, but not good since I teach High School Sunday School 🙁
70%. Never read Shakespeare except little bit in HS.
It is quite a challenge because Shakespeare proved to be as good a writer as god almighty.
Same score as BFH.
23 out of 30. Not as good as I thought I’d do. Oh well. An interesting story says that Shakespeare was one of the translators of the King James version of the bible. He was 46 at the time and supposedly translated some of the Psalms. If you go to Psalms 46 and count from the beginning to the 46th word, that word is shake. Counting 46 words backwards from the end of that Psalm gives the word spear. Maybe just a coincidence, maybe not. You know how quirky these artistic types can be heh, heh, heh.
90% score. 27/30 Yeah, I do read the Bible quite often. Familiar enough with Shakespeare to recognize some of the quotes.
Got 80%. Book of Job got me too. I thought I’d do better
66%. I’ll take it!
86% same as Geoff the aardvark. I copied his test.
hope God grades on the curve. . .i got low 80’s
73%, not bad considering it’s been 45 years since I have cracked either book.
Oh, Brown Eyed Girl, that’s Dr. Tar in the byline.
80%, some seemed obvious…others not so…
66%. Nice to know I’m consistent, I don’t know the Bible OR Shakespeare.
80% – I went through it too fast – I should have done way better.
I am disappointed in myself!
