The Interpreter: ISIS Advances Due To Russian Airstrikes Against Rival Groups In Syria.
The latest assessment of the Institute for the Study of War says it all — ISIS is advancing as a result of Russian airstrikes against their rival rebel groups which were provided with weapons by the United States and its allies:

ISW concludes that Russia’s airstrikes are designed to aid a push by the Syrian Arab Army (SAA), which is aided by Iranian and Hezbollah ground troops. Furthermore, ISIS is taking advantage of the weakened rebel positions and is itself advancing near Aleppo:

Not too bad a military tactic. Get rid of the lesser enemy, wait for the greater enemy to take over, Take out the greater enemy. Save time and labor trying to root out the greater enemy.
This is how we take back our gov’t. Vote out the commies in the House and Senate (R&D), then take the White Hut back. Without the elimination of the lesser in DC, having your guy as prezzy won’t matter.
