Black Caucus members undecided about supporting Booker or Harris

American Thinker: The Congressional Black Caucus has a dilemma to resolve.  With two major black candidates running for president, whom do the caucus’s members support?  Senators Cory Booker and Kamala Harris are both vying for the coveted CBC endorsement, and both candidates have been working to cement allies.

Or does the CBC give its backing to an old hand like Joe Biden?

There are several powerful Democratic lawmakers from pivotal primary states who could give a significant boost to either candidate.

Politico: African-American and minority voters are poised to play an outsize role in determining the Democratic nominee to take on President Donald Trump next year.  In addition to their clout on Capitol Hill, CBC members can be powerful surrogates in their home states – able to deliver financial and organizational support from union heads, state party chairs and other elected officials.

That means CBC member endorsements could be especially valuable in what already is shaping up to be a crowded primary.

“Issues that are important to African-Americans are going to be at the forefront” of the Democratic primary, said Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-N.Y.), a CBC member who received a call from Harris before she declared her candidacy.  “Members of the Congressional Black Caucus, as a result, are going to be instrumental for all the candidates in talking about issues of concern.”

Some CBC members are excited about Harris’ candidacy, though her background as a prosecutor has prompted doubts among certain African-American voters.

Before she formally announced her bid last week, Harris sought endorsements from CBC lawmakers in Georgia, Ohio and Michigan.

And she appeared last weekend in South Carolina with House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn, possibly the biggest prize among CBC members.  Before announcing her candidacy, Harris sat down with Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.), the civil rights icon, for an hour in his Capitol Hill office.  Harris did not ask for his endorsement during the meeting, according to the veteran lawmaker.

For his part, Booker has had a long and close relationship with CBC members – and he’s reached out to a number of them ahead of his expected announcement.

Yet questions over Booker’s White House ambitions don’t present the only challenge for CBC members.  Some are waiting for home-state pols to make their intentions known about whether they’ll run for president.  And Biden is viewed as a candidate who can win the Midwestern states that Hillary Clinton lost, a big concern for Democrats.

One of the unspoken issues that may play a role in the decision of CBC members is “colorism.”  Any pundit who brings up the issue of who is “blacker” will be hysterically accused of racism.

  1. Well..let’s see.

Booker is most likely gay. But that didn’t stop Obama. x

Harris is a proven bimbo. check

Booker is clearly blacker than Harris. check

Harris is only half-black. But that didn’t stop Obama. x

    I’d call it a draw.

    Just sayin’.

  2. Who cares! The fight for Trump will be splitting off black voters from the Democrats. If black unemployment continues to decrease while wages for them increase (this will really depend on success at getting the wall) voting “color” won’t be as important to them as voting “jobs”. If he works hard enough and reminds them that he’s the one that has bought dignity, reunited dads with their families and gave them a shot at a future Trump may be able to split off half the black vote and likely a lot of hispanic, at least the legal ones. Add to that Trump supporters exerting real pressure on the RINO’s and 2020 could put an end to the socialist side of the Democrat Party.
Besides, both those morons have enough skeletons in the closet to turn November 3rd, 2020 a late Halloween for either one except there won’t be any treats.

  3. If the black caucus members were to make an objective evaluation (hah!) of which candidate would act in ways that would further the best interests of themselves and those they pretend to represent, they would support Donald J. Trump.

Never happen. Not in a million years.

  4. Spartacus Booker or Kalamity Harris? The Congressional Black Caucus has a difficult decision. One’s a complete phony and the other one is a total fraud. One of them is an empty suit and the other one is a fulsome pair of panties. One of them is cockeyed and the other one has been well and truly cocked. But, both of them are opportunistic vote buying, Socialists-Demographic Party Members. Neither one of them is qualified for the Senate seats they are holding, but they both believe that they can finish the Fundamental Transformation that their exalted Osmidgen started. This is going to be a difficult choice unless one of them quits.

Like lowering Black unemployment? I think President Trump should have your vote, if THAT’S an important issue to you.

Like curbing Black genocide being perpetrated against Black babies by an organization specifically invented to do just that? President Trump is your only hope there.

By reducing inner-city crime by keeping international gang members OUT? You need to vote President Trump for that.

Making sure that Black people have the right to keep and bear arms against the day the Democrats may try to enalave them AGAIN? President Trump is your choice, then.

…sorry Racist Caucus. If you were TRULY interested in “Issues that are important to African-Americans”, then you would have NO choice but to endorse the ONE man who ACTUALLY helps the Black community.

    That be Donald J. Trump.

  6. Black Caucus are Black Communists. In-fighting communists kill each other off to keep control, just like criminal Mafia families. So who will be the lucky loser! Not one black Congress member is honorable. The only one who ever had some kind of ethics was Cynthia McKinney and she was rigged election removed from office. She is not even recognized as worthy of note by her own black people. Tossed aside for the black political shysters instead.
