CPR: The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is coming out against a California ruling that requires coffee sellers to place cancer warnings on their products.
California’s Proposition 65 requires businesses to display explicit warnings if cancer-causing agents are present in their products. Acrylamide, which is a byproduct of roasting coffee beans, is on the list of Proposition 65 carcinogens. Research found that lab rats were at a greater risk of developing cancer after consuming the chemical in high doses. But a human would need to consume 35,000 cups of coffee each day to face the same risk. A Los Angeles County Superior Court judge nevertheless ruled in March that coffee shops, including major chains such as Starbucks, would need to display the warning.
The FDA released a statement on Wednesday decrying the ruling. “Although acrylamide at high doses has been linked to cancer in animals, and coffee contains acrylamide, current science indicates that consuming coffee poses no significant risk of cancer,” the statement says. The FDA has put its support behind an appeal of the decision. more here
Bureaucrats looking for things to do come up with ever more silly and irksome little rules and warnings to pester the consumer. The government being wildly out of control.
They have finally gone to .. “plaid”
Just another Commie attempt to dismantle an American institution. I’m not gonna drink tea and watch Soccer.
California is a cancer.
More signs and warnings that nobody will pay any attention to.
Remember this one from the Five Man Electrical Band:

I hope the class action lawsuits are limited to California coffee houses.
Nobody gets out alive.
Put up the signs. Nobody notices them or pays them any attention, anyway.
Signs and slogans are pretty much for morons who don’t have enough sense to stumble through the day without causing themselves (or others) serious harm and to remind socialists and other retarded maggots not to pour hot coffee into their laps or shove beans up their noses or softballs into their mouths.
So, yeah, CA should tax the productive to try to keep the parasites from harming themselves. That’s the ticket!
izlamo delenda est …
Are they going to fine me because I put some espresso powder in my coffee this morning to give it a little extra kick. Washington state is not quite California yet but we’re getting there rapidly.
California is rapidly becoming the movie “Idiocracy” in real time. It appears that there is no liberal idea they will not enact into law regardless of the costs and inconveniences to the taxpayers. California’s ruling body passed up stupid long ago and is now into sheer lunacy.
Reminds me of the grubbermints argument as to why Benzine is STILL allowed to be used in thousands of commercial products as well as a food preservative even though they have known for decades that a certain percentage of the population WILL develop Leukemia from Benzine exposure.
After years working with common interior/exterior paint I got told by my oncologist that is EXACTLY what caused my cancer. His flippant remark about how come I did not read the label of the product I was getting covered in on a daily basis or the even stronger benzine ridden products used to clean the paint from my skin, like turpentine for one?
Since I lived and was permanently disabled from it I have been doing research into this and other carcinogens and it turns out that MANY poisons are still allowed by the vaunted FDA that kill and sicken many americans every single year so it is up to Y-O-U to protect yourself instead of trusting some faceless bureaucrat to do it for you or your children since my exposure began as a child doing slave-labor for the “family” business.
When will CA demand cancer warnings on marijuana?
When the wind is right the stench of California liberals can be smelled all the way to the east coast.
Sometimes you just want to slap the stupid out of people.
They need to slap on an age restriction, 21 for coffee sounds right. 21 for the Second Amendment, 21 for alcohol.
Age 18, given a gun, served coffee in the military and alcohol.
Problem is, Zonga, that chronological age is such an unreliable indicator of maturity.
Thus, Congress.
Here is a typical Prop 65 warning:
“This product contains a chemical known to the State of California to cause [cancer, and] birth defects or other reproductive harm.”
So Commiefornia thinks their residents are smarter than all the rubes in the rest of the country?
Do they put similar signs on the illegals as they usher therm accross the border?
Right! ‘WARNING’: Illegal foreign invaders can and do cause murder!
“This product is known by the state of California to cause cancer”
Not a problem, just don’t drink it in California.
Years ago I bought a gunsmithing hammer from Brownells and it had that “This product contains a chemical known to the State of California to cause [cancer, and] birth defects or other reproductive harm.” warning on it.
A hammer. A freakin’ hammer!?
If you’re eating, chewing, or otherwise ingesting your hand tools, you belong in CA.
#Warning! Californians moving to your state will still be leftist retard Democrats!
Since Kaliphornia mandated cancer warnings on virtually everything sold in the state, who pays attention to what actually may cause cancer? Don’t any Kaliphornia law makers remember lessons about crying ‘wolf’ all the time? The state needs an unpaid legislature that only meets 3 months every other year.
Look at the tags that came with the cords to your appliances. All California warnings. But don’t bother washing your hands after you touch them. The liquid soap will give you cancer, too.

That’s not the wind. That’s The Wave.
Apparently the coffee industry hasn’t paid up to the California communists. They must be destroyed.
“…known to cause cancer in the state of California.”
What confuses me is why any of this stuff doesn’t cause cancer in other states?
