When an Egan, MN man, Dennis Erickson died last year, he left all his worldly possessions to his local church (unmarried with no children, the church was his family).
The finance officer for the church, Lisa Lundstrom, came to look at the house and discovered what is possibly the largest model car collection in the world.
Estimated at over 30,000 cars, the church now has to decide how best to sell the collection.
They always say if you’re ever going to start collecting, make sure to acquire things you really enjoy and not just as an investment.
When can I move in! 🙂
Seriously, if I had money I would buy the whole house.
Thanks for this post!
He documented every purchase? Every thing he did? Wonder if him and that train guy that was posted the other day would get along.
I would love to walk though that home. God blessed him and now he gave it all back to God.
What train guy CharlieH2O?
He always had young children around him. Well duh!
nitpicking ~ most of these look like toys, not models
…but still, way too cool!
Technically a ‘model’ car would be any replica of a car, be it die-cast or otherwise.
And i thought I had a lot. I think I peaked around 3000 mostly 1/64 scale. If they were smart they would start by turning the house into a museum and charging admission and holding auctions with some of the cars for sale in the gift shop. Until they get the number down to something more manageable. They can sell the lesser ones on Ebay and the more valuables ones in a collector’s auction.
The old catalogs and brochures will fetch a good price.
I wouldn’t be surprised if a single collector bought the whole lot.
Selling it piecemeal will be a full-time job.
Great for a retiree.
Loco: Indeed. If that house was anywhere near someplace I could live I would already have put a down payment on it and the whole collection. But if I did that my wife would probably kill me. Or leave me. Or kill me and then leave me.
I was thinking Jay Leno would like it.
They need to find a guy with a 30,000 firecracker collection.
All that Testes airplane glue finally caught up with him.
Hey Corona, that was my first high!
