The [Charlottesville city] council received at least six proposals addressing how the effigies of the Confederacy’s most prominent generals should be disposed of.
It was decided that the statue of Lee would be donated to the Jefferson School African American Heritage Center, according to the city council.
The center’s “Swords into Plowshares” proposal was bolstered by more than 30 letters of support, including those written by the descendants of former slaves.
“Our hope with ‘Swords into Plowshares’ is to create something that transforms what was once toxic in our public space into something beautiful that can be more reflective of our entire community’s social values,” said the center’s executive director, Andrea Douglas. More
It already IS public art!
Better than anything it might be “transformed” into.
The American Taliban are a disgrace. You don’t need to worship the democrats of the confederacy, but erasing history is simply shameful.
Since we are now only creating statues of black criminal thugs who had a police contact of some sort and died in some fashion mostly self-induced, I say we do another statue of George Floyd. Or if some local shitbag expired and a cop was at least a block away, do him.
Is the black community so desperate for role models to emulate that an aimless good for absolutely nothing felon who died of a Fentanyl overdose all they got?
My dear sainted granddad always said “what happened yesterday is gone”. Our history is exactly that, history. Yet, there seems to be an awful lot of people who think that our history can be erased & re-written by those who are offended by everything that does not toe the line of what they deem to be acceptable. Which is not a whole hell of a lot.
Probably be made into another saint george floyd
bust or statue. Waste of a perfectly good statue.
Those who forget the past. Come on residents of Charlottesville, grab your AR’s and make your voices, or muzzles, heard. This is fucking bull shit. Why are we caving to the weak fucking sister crowd.
Wow, 30 whole fn letters of support. Low-life POS.
Dollars to donuts, the modern day “hero” who will be memorialized with the new project had a rap sheet a mile long.
I say money talks.
I propose we create a GofundMe campaign to move it to a place of reverence. There are plenty of cemeteries full of young soldiers who died for the cause.
Atlanta, Charleston, etc.
Put that beautiful work of art in its rightful place.
Stone Mountain GA is where it belongs.
Watch the libs cry.
I’m serious. Let’s get a petition going.
The more I think about this, the more I like it.
I’m making some calls tomorrow.
This would make a great Christmas present for the city of Stone Mountain. 👍
Public art? I’m sure we can come up with many good ideas. How about Robert Byrd in his KKK uniform with Bill Clinton and Joe Biden with their arms around him. That would be appropriate.
Time to resurrect Trayvon. I think Robert E Lee would make a good Trayvon. From oppressor to the oppressed – keep the victim-hood alive.
Never forget!
We shall overcome!
I have a dream…that all low-life black hood rats will be judged, not by the content of their character, but by the color of their skin.
Black Power!
Say his name!
Keep your eyes on the prize!
Reparations!
Are you woke?!

That’s a great idea. I mean a really great idea. The Black Dysfunctional Militia has made an appearance there before. If you make this happen you need to let us know.
Just to be clear, that is not my perception of Robert E. Lee, it’s my perception of those that are looking to rewrite history.
If the cultural vandals who want to melt down the General Lee statue really want to turn that bronze into something truly emblematic, that vividly captures the soul of the modern American progressive movement, they should cast a statue of a street bum defecating on the sidewalk while smoking a joint and sticking a needle into his arm.
@ Woody – the statue would need to be put in Stone Mountain Park (which is owned by the state) rather than the city of Stone Mountain. The city used to be a small, upscale village until the last couple of decades. Unless things have changed for the better recently, it is now a crime infested hell hole for the most part with a lot of gang related problems. So putting the statue in the city of Stone Mountain probably wouldn’t do anything to save it in the long run. The city representatives would be just as anxious to destroy it. Hopefully the state would make a real effort to preserve it as part of the park’s attractions.
SEE YA IN A YEAR, AFTER REAL LOW TOURIST MONEY DON’T SHOW UP. 30 letters did it? YOU ARE BEING SLUNG BY COMMUNISTS.
MARCH THEM OUT OF TOWN OR BECOME ONE OF THEM. WE WILL NOT HELP YOU.
GOOD SLUCK.
No one who supports this would have been fit to be in the same room with a man as great as Robert E. Lee.
So, the point was not only to tear down the statue, but to also make sure no one else anywhere can ever enjoy or admire it.
Every dingbat ejit who wants to tear down a statue or rename a street has no f’ing idea what it costs to move or replace things. But they get all sorts of free publicity screaming about equity in the local tabloids so that anybody who wants to actually help out and offer to move a statue (for free or cheap) to someplace it might be preserved for future generations who may come to their senses, is scared of getting doxxed and defunded in their life and business.
This is not a conversation about equity and diversity; this is extortion and terrorism. The land that statue is on was gifted to the city of Charlottesville ON THE CONDITION this statue was placed there. I really hope the family sues for the return of the land –which is PRIMO real estate on which I hope they erect something truly offensive.

Thanks for your insight….and you are right.
My perspective on that small town – I believed it had remained clean and dignified as I remembered it from the 80’s. Stone Mountain was a great place to visit back then.
I took my dad out there several times. He was a big Civil War buff. That’s when families could go out and picnic on a blanket and watch the “laser show” on the huge carvings on the mountainside. The narrator would tell the story as music played and the lasers would highlight the generals as the horses ‘galloped’ across the rock. Everyone was proud of that heritage and enjoyed the presentation. Sad that the sentiment is just not the same now.
But there might still be hope to rescue the Lee statue and place it in a respectful place. I’ll be talking to a couple of attorney friends of mine tomorrow. One of them has the governor’s ear. Maybe we can get something going. I also have a publicist friend who can possibly help get the word out.
Unfortunately, I’m familiar with the city of Charlottesville as well. I suffered through a bad marriage there. It’s a liberal cesspool now. Thomas Jefferson established the entire city and you watch, he’ll be next.
But I was there to see the giant tarp covering the Lee monument. I actually drove around and sought it out. It was the most embarrassingly ridiculous, disrespectful spectacle I’ve ever seen – This 60 ft tall century-old Civil War general covered in what looked like a giant hefty bag. I’m sure there are still pics online but to see it up close was just heinous.
But the city of Charlottesville might want money while having it taken off their hands. It seems only right to at least try.
It should stand in a place where it can be appreciated.
@ Woody – I still have a house about 10 miles from there. The commute to downtown ATL was either I-85 or US Hwy 78 which turned into Ponce De Leon inside the perimeter. By sometime around 2000, the city of Stone Mountain had pretty much become a no-go zone after dark and there were shootings happening all the time at apartment complexes that had been built in the 80’s and 90’s. So I usually drove I-85 after it got dark. I had a couple of friends that live there in the 90’s but they said the place had become so dangerous that they had to move (even the subdivisions went downhill fast).
I too fondly remember the times when you could go sit with family and watch the laser show and not be worried about your car getting broken into or being jumped while walking to the parking lots. Some of the usual suspects locally have lobbied to have the carving destroyed – hopefully the state won’t allow it. And since the carving is so large and on the sheer face of the mountain, it’s pretty difficult (hopefully impossible) for them to vandalize themselves.
What’s next, paintings of Robert E Lee or any depiction of him in a Civil War era movie. Including their sainted Martin Sheen playing Robert E Lee in the Civil war movie Gettysburg. These jerks on the left will never be satisfied until they completely remove any depiction of past American history and its greatness both good and bad and even then they’ll still want to destroy it even more. I hate the left!
Charlottesville Robert E. Lee Statue to be Melted Down and Turned into Pubic Art.

How is melting statues any different than burning books?
These people are very dangerous!
Perhaps they never read Fahrenheit 451.

> These people are very dangerous!
Yes, they are. So what? They are what they are. You know what they are. They happily, loudly, tell you.
They also tell, have told, you, what they intend for you. And the response is, “Oh no! That’s not who we are.” Which is true. Not who you are. But it is who they are. They’ve told you so.
If you insist on laying on the couch, throwing money at their bagmen (“your” worshipful government), to increase the profitability of attacking you, why should anyone care what happens to you? And yours? You are buying what you want. At a premium.
If you oppose their extermination, again, you are who you are. Why is that anyone else’s concern?
If you don’t want you and yours exterminated… Oh, come on! Pull the other one!
