The season of holiday cheer and good will towards men is fast approaching, Christmas. And with the season comes a month of beautiful Christmas music, endlessly repeated. Which is a shame.
The music is wonderful but too much of anything becomes annoying. Yesterday, I was listening to my new favorite online music site AccuRadio to their 50/50 Christmas to Classic blend channel when what to my curious ears should be played, but a mash up of Christmas with classic themes from Bach, Handel and Vivaldi. The variations breathed new life into both genres at the same time.
Ah, lovely.
I have honestly been thinking of using classical Christmas music for the background all month instead of just letting random stuff play on shuffle.
This is perfect. 🙂
[But on Christmas eve and Christmas day- it’s Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, and GPR christmas non-stop lol)
I heard a unique instrumental piece on Sirius some years ago, when they dedicated a channel to all classical Christmas music. I was so taken with it I noted the title on the display, thinking I would remember it. Alas, after the holiday hoopla, II did not. It was ethereal, almost military like with horns. Made me think of “the heavenly hosts” announcing Jesus’ birth. Haven’t heard it since. Unfortunately, Sirius has cut back on their classical Christmas offering to only a couple of days instead of the two weeks from years back. Still searching for that piece. Thanks for this Dr. Tar.
XM has switched their Forties Swing Band channel over to Christmas music; a little early for my taste. Too though, I drive past a home daily that has their tree up and decorated. Maybe it’s just me; everything in its season, etc. (I know it’s hard to deny the pleasure of multiple repetitions of Alvin and the Chipmunks)
I love classical Christmas songs. I also love jazz Christmas songs. The oldies from Bing and that era are also nice. The new songs are terrible for the most part and seem to try too hard.
Well, that’s a switch. At Christmas time it’s usually the shoppers who go baroque, if you know what I mean.
😉
I’ll see if I can find it!
@Vietvet
You never disappoint!
Man … Sid Vicious duin “Silence Night” still brings teers ato my I’s.

Time. Inexorable. It may not repeat, but it always rhymes.
The night before the first day of “The Xmas Season” they go all medieval, on one another.
I do apology to those who find this post premature. I wanted to give readers time to listen and decide for themselves if they liked the recommendation.
Personally, I actually like the second “Baroque” album more than the first, but the 50/50 channel on Accuradio is pretty good too.
If you really want a wide selection of Christmas music offerings, check out Accuradio’s “Holiday” section. There’s every genre, even the same Christmas song played by different artist if that’s your pleasure. Plenty to explore there, no need to get annoyed by the endless repeating of the same song over and over and over and over.
What a nice Christmas present, Dr. Tar! Thank you! I am enjoying it all. Merry Christmas to you, too.

Nice to see you’re paying good money for satellite-delivered music whose time has come and gone. We SiriusXM shareholders thank you, especially at this Most Wonderful Time Of The Year. ♪♫♫♪
