April is National STD Awareness Month, and to raise awareness of the “skyrocketing STD rates, particularly rates of syphilis,” the National Coalition of STD Directors thought sending every member of Congress a plush toy (see after the read more) depicting the syphilis or gonorrhea virus would be just the thing to get members to attend their congressional briefing.
Titled “Syphilis Resurgence and Why STD Programs are Critical to the Nation’s Health” the group made its pitch to Congress for more funding.
“Last year was the third year in a row of double digit increases of primary and secondary syphilis, and between 2012 and 2014, rates of congenital syphilis increased by 38 percent.”
So what population would you guess is their greatest concern for the spread of this age old STD?
