Welcomed @SenTedCruz to my office in the @WhiteHouse. Looking forward to working closely with the Senator on important legislation ahead. pic.twitter.com/F8stH4k1iR

American Thinker: Democrats tend to love sneaky lawyer tricks because their side is so good at them. The passage of Obamacare under the Senate rules governing “reconciliation” is the most prominent example of creatively applying the rules to get what they want.
But it turns out that there are some really smart and creative legal minds on the GOP side, and now that the GOP runs the Senate, the sauce for the Democrat goose also flavors the Republican gander, if that isn’t too disagreeable an abuse of metaphorical license. Ted Cruz is one such legal mind; in the words of legendary Harvard Law School Professor Alan Dershowitz, “…one of the best students I ever had.”
Get the story here
Turtle McConnell, Lindsee Graham and John McCrakster are more concerned with Senate Privelege than with actually serving their constituents.
It’s TIME to put the Senate back under control of the “states assemblies of the several states” and REPEALING the ill-advised “Progressive” 17th Amendment.
Do it!
I trust Cruz over Ryan, McConnell and the Rhino’s.
I read this article 2 days ago. Republicans don’t have the balls to do it. So McConnell doesn’t want to change the rules let Cruz and Pence do it for him! What do you think CSteven Tucker?
They stuck it up our ass with less than 60 votes, I can’t believe we are trying to be so frickin honorable by thinking we need a super majority to fix it. We all know it needs to be done but nobody has the backbone to do it.
I do not believe the Republicans have the political courage it takes to do this.
Republicans are playing politics, Progressives are engaged in Total War. Democrats would have no problem with this solution if they were in power.
Some Republicans are RHINOs, some Republicans are stupid and some Republicans are Democrats and they are all critters in the swamp.
This is why midterms and down ballots are so important. This shit, that my guy’s OK, you need to change your guy, has got to stop. I swear I will vote democrat before I vote Lindsay again.
Obamacare is going to end up crashing and burning on it’s own. Lisa Murkowski, Corey Gardner, Rob Portman, and Shelly Moore have all said they’d vote against Ryan’s Bill. Apparently there’s a few others that will join them in an effort to stall the repeal of the Medicaid Expansion. It’s now doubtful they can achieve the 51 required votes under reconciliation.
@BBrad ~ I think they only need 51 votes in the Senate (if they have the cojones to pull it off), but need 218 (out of something like 238 repugnicans) in the House …. to pass it on to the Senate
ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ
They need to get it out of the Senate first. And that is looking really doubtful. But I get your point. The House will even be tougher.
Cruz is a brilliant legal mind. Turn about is fair play since that is how the Dems operate. Let the squealing begin!
While I really hope Trump talks Cruz into accepting the next seat that opens on SCOTUS his legal mind and conservative views would be sorely missed in the Senate. At some point the actual conservatives in the country need to fully take control of the GOP in order to give a much needed “come to Jesus” talk with these rino’s. You would think that Trump’s increasing popularity despite the best efforts of the media and the liberal progressives to destroy him would be opening their eye’s but apparently not.
The democrats are willing to prevent the will and well being of the people to further their effort to discredit the Trump Administration for future political support.
Right now the GOP has weak leadership at best.
Lyin’ Ryan, and mitch McCONnell don’t possess the integrity, principle or intestinal fortitude to support Trump’s agenda for recovery.
Ryan and McConnell disgust me.
Time to light up senate telephone lines, big time.
President Trump needs to do a Victory lap in McStain, Turtleman, and Gramcracker’s states to get people out to do a shout out at their entitled statesmen.
Somebody give McConnell a pussy hat so he can hang out with Ashley Judd and bleed from his “whatever” on her sheets.
Basically you replace the Senate Parliamentarian with Mike Pence. It’s actually quite brilliant. My concern is that like suspending the filibuster, it sets a precedent for Dems if we ever lose our narrow Senate majority. It’s basically giving those dumb dumbs another idea to screw us in the future should the political winds (God forbid) ever change to their favor again. That stated, I remain impressed with Senator Cruz’s legal mind.
Winds will favor them again, have no doubt about that. Politically, the Left is to human nature what gravity is to any object thrown through the air.
The Senate is what it is today, and Cruz seems to have come up with a really sharp way to use its rules and structure to get some real work done repealing the ACA.
But along with @Oil Field Trash I’m looking at how screwed up the Senate is and what can be done to unscrew it. He’s right about the 17th Amendment – The Senate was conceived to represent state legislatures, not state populations, and the 17th tossed that idea right out the window. The result is that our representative republic took on more of the characteristics of a mob rule democracy. That, to belabor the obvious, sucks. Repealing the 17th would be a Very Good Thing.
Which reminds me how terrible a year 1913 was. That year saw the ratifications of the 16th Amendment (income tax), the 17th (popular election of Senators), and the Federal Reserve Act. All have been disastrous to the cause of maintaining a free society of individuals who have consented to be governed by a strictly limited central govt.
there is NOTHING to stop Democrats from using this very tactic against us in the future. NOTHING.
Pussy Republicans – again.
“Basically you replace the Senate Parliamentarian with Mike Pence”
You still.need to get to 51. Add McClintock to my above list. That’s 5. They are a discunctional bunch.
and now that the democrats know about this procedure, they will use it whether the republicans do or not.
They have to do it now.
Unfortunately the Dems didn’t use reconciliation to pass Obamacare in the Senate. They did use it for some amendments.

I’m not a fan of the House Plan, retaining Medicaid expansion is unsustainable and needs to go. Supposedly this was left in there for the left leaning Senators who think they must have it to get re-elected. I think some of those are Murkowski, Portman, maybe Snowe and Collins. Well I would take the Medicaid expansion out and dare them to be the reason that Obamacare wasn’t repealed and replaced. Put the screws to them just like the Dems did to their members. Actually the Dems cut pork barrel deals with their colleagues. Also, remember when the last hold out didn’t want abortions to be paid for with Obamacare and they promised him it wouldn’t. Wow what an idiot douche bag.
The simple fact is, Republicans don’t WANT to repeal Obamacare.
