I used to love classical/Orchestrated music as a child. Later years go into 70/80’s rock. Now into lyrical folk, especially from Ireland.
But My choice for best song ever written: Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture. So I guess Orchestrated wins. That piece just blows my mind every time I hear it.

2. the best classical music in the modern age has been in Motion Picture soundtracks
3. … & since we’ve gotten used to paying for it … TV

One of my favorite pieces of music is the music orchestrated for the HBO original, John Adams. I spent many weeks trying to find out where I could get the published score only to see that it was never published. I couldn’t believe it, but there it is. A particularly great piece of musical workmanship that, if you want it, you have to sit down and score it yourself. Any takers?
