Why do I focus on the dog when I see old footage?

  1. This looks like a film that was sharpened, upscaled to 60 fps, and colorized. There are many films on YouTube that have gone through those processes.

I am not generally a big fan of the colorizing — not for the philosophical reasons as I would be for a feature film, but rather because the colorizing is interpreted from the grey scale. Some of the films fluctuate so much that it makes you feel like you are taking an acid trip.

I have also found that upscaling the frame rate really only works for high quality sources. If the image is not perfectly clear then you don’t really see the effect.

Some of them almost look like a modern video shot today.

Al couple of my favorites are:

The flying train in Germany in 1902: https://youtu.be/EQs5VxNPhzk

1940’s race cars — this one shows the colorizing problem a little and the bounsing frame from the image stabilization can be disconcerting: https://youtu.be/Rkirch8Sk2s

  2. I always hoped time travel would make it for me in time, but looks like I’ll have to go with old photos and film. The grass always looks greener, but this week travel into the future looks like the grass is dying in America.

  3. They all had the look on their face as if they are seeing something from another planet. They look fat and happy. Dressed appropriately, didn’t see any tats, blue or pink hair. I wanna go back to those days because I think in today’;s world the camera is capturing creatures from another planet. That was fun BFH.

  4. @Left Coast Dan: What struck me on your video, were all the people standing around behind the cameraman and the shooter. Weren’t they afraid of a stray bullet? Killings from the beginning of time were crowd pleasers. I shouldn’t analyze these films like I do. 🙂

  5. Technically, this is time travel. It’s read only memory however. Thank God for that cause we have a tendency to repeat old data anyways. Call it a bug.

Lots of bugs have turn to virus in D.C and some states.
