Pigpen from Peanuts goin for home…
Mostly harmless, but not fun to be caught in.
I say “mostly”, because I’ve seen larger ones that tore shingles off roofs and lift stuff into the air (and I’m not talking lightweight paper).
Nothing worse than getting sand in your bubble gum.
Way way back, in the Texas Panhandle, during what I think was little league practice, several groups were out on the field when a large dust devil swooped in. It actually lifted one of the kids into the air – not very far, maybe a foot or so, but that was pretty amazing.
Driving on I 90 out by Ritzville, Wash. about 60 miles West of Spokane you’ll often see some larger dust devils cruising along in those wheat fields out there especially when the fields are fallow and empty of any ground vegetation on windy days.
That gives a new meaning for the term “whirlwind tour”.
…So now the ump (kudos for getting the kid out, BTW) has an EXCUSE for being blind…

Its rare to not see one in central and eastern WA during the season.
Everyone: “Wow! Look at that!”
My Dad: “WHAT ARE YOU DOING!? THROW TO FIRST! HE’S JUST STANDING THERE!!!”
Anyone else notice that it started rounding the bases backwards towards 3rd?
Sns. I have stupidly walked into a dust devil and it took a day to get the grit out from under my eyelids.
@ Kcir at 1:18 pm,
I had a first year (17 YO) player that ran that way upon his first and only hit of the season….

Ghost of the Bambino…
I don’t think we’re in Kansas anymore.
Special Request: I’d love to see someone shop a picture of Nancy Pelosi riding across the field on her broom!
