Disney Acquires 20th Century Fox for 71.3 Billion Dollars

Newser-

“Disney had been a mere behemoth,” observes the New York Times. At 12:02am Wednesday, it became something greater, a Goliath among Davids. That’s thanks to the closing of its $71.3 billion acquisition of 21st Century Fox properties, transforming Disney into an entertainment company of unprecedented size. To give some perspective: The Wall Street Journal reports the combined Disney/Fox box office market share for 2018 was 35%. The six things you need to know:

  1. Now under its umbrella (besides its theme parks): ESPN and studios like Marvel, Pixar, and Lucasfilm; plus the addition of the 20th Century Fox studio (which claims everything from the X-Men, Alien, and Simpsons franchises to This Is Us and Modern Family); Blue Sky, the animation studio behind Ice Age; the National Geographic and FX cable networks; and Fox’s 30% slice of Hulu, giving Disney a controlling 60% stake, reports NPR.
  2. The size of the acquisition: It’s the biggest ever for the 96-year-old Disney, far outpacing the $19 billion buy of Capital Cities/ABC in 1995 that got it ESPN; in today’s dollars, that was a $32 billion deal.

    > Disney needs to be destroyed.

Disney is an extension of, created by, and existing only through the ongoing desire of, the government. It is as difficult to undo as a bill eliminating parking meters. Of course, that means it is as likely to be undone as a bill eliminating parking meters. So, never… oh, that’s right… THIS GOV SUCKS
